BBC with 0411 Conversion 72 Chevelle

Hello,

I posted this in the big block section when I had the idea and it didn't get much attention. Im not even quite sure if it can be done but I'm intent on giving it a shot anyway. Nothing to lose except a bunch of money I guess. So this is a complete harness I pulled from the junk yard from a 02 Chevy Silverado with an 0411 ECM. This Chevelle as a fresh BBC (72) with dual Edelbrock carbs and an Edelbrock manifold. It also has a blown 700r4 that lasted 3 pulls, and a worn out set of 2.73 gears in the back and an open diff. Plan is a built 4l60e, built 12 bolt, and a Edelbrock Pro Flo efi setup being run by an 0411 ecm. My concerns at this point are in regard to crank triggering but I am going to forge ahead anyway and try and figure out a solution

Thats a cool idea. Points that would make me wonder are the crank wheel and the cam sensor. Guess you could bolt/weld a factory wheel on the back of balancer, but the cam sensor is still a problem. Maybe figure out how to mount the cam sensor to the distributor some how? You can use any of the 4150 throttle bodys that take a GM ICS and TPS. Whats the firing order on a big block? And I think you may find that the 4l60 isnt that much better than the 700r4 that was in it.
Cool project tho and good luck.

Take that nice harness and put a LS engine under it. I took a 600HP 502 out of my GTO and installed a L92/LS3...and I never regretted that for a second.

I got this idea looking at a Vortec 7400 in the junk yard. Although I am told by another member the timing cover is completely different, the distributor can be converted to work with as a crank trigger. Firing order is going to have to be changed, its different. I am assuming the injector firing order is going to have to be changed as well. I'm stuck with the 4L60e, just spent a bunch of $$ on a converter I am not willing to give up. Fortunately they are interchangeable.

Called them for a harness and about their crank trigger system. They offer no support for IV big blocks.

Dare to be different? I wanted to do an LS swap on something for a while, but its almost been beat to death now. Sure, the fuel economy is great and I see guys making 1000whp on a stock lq4 but I just want to do something different. This is a great big block. Feels awesome on the shitty carb setup we have. It would be amazing dialed in. And its different.

We are making plans to do a LS swapped mid 70's firebird. Friends have mine have already said "oh, your going turbo I guess?" Nope... LSA

I am really, really interested in the Vortec 4200. I think it would be a great turbo engine with a forged bottom end. Might consider doing something with that in the future. They are a dime a dozen everywhere...

Toss an FiTech setup on it and be done.

Big blocks are awesome.

I believe that you can change the firing order in the PCM... or you can probably get a cam with the firing order swapped. Megasquirt can likely get you the crank/cam trigger wheel(s), or you can use an MSD distributor to do the same/similar.

I started on a project like this 2 years ago and never finished it. I have an old V drive Flat bottom that i converted to efi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_H44...ature=youtu.be

I now have an aluminum head motor BBC with a larger cam. I started to run a COP ignition system and has restraint due to the timing cover i ran for my water pump. I paid a guy $100 laser cut this center for me and i indexed the center where i wanted my crank sensor mounted. I also had another friend that work at Dan Olson make these one of a kind valve covers. I have mefi burn and the MEFI 4 ran so good after fine tuning i abandoned the 24x project. My intentions were to use a L21 454 calibration for my starter file. Correct fitting order and what not.

I will look into changing the firing order in the tune then, that would be great. As it stands I was planning on cutting the coil wires and injector wires and soldiering them on in the right firing order to accomplish that.

Here's a question, a few people have mentioned msd distributor. I was planning on using a Vortec 7400 distributor just for the cam signal and trying to figure out something for the 24x reluctor. Keep in in mind I'm using a stock GM ECU. I know on the megasquirt setup you can adjust some parameter to run a different try of distributor or coil setup but I don't think there is any way to do this with a stock ECU. Does MSD make a part that can accomplish both crank and cam signal which I am unaware of?

I am pretty sure also nothing but the 24x reluctor from a GM car is going to work... if you look at all the aftermarket stuff the teeth look very different.

I really like that balancer and the valve covers. I think that's exactly the direction I want to go in. I wish you would have finished the project so I would know for sure if this is going to work or not ahead of time LOL!

Sorry, Caught my leg in the last picture. So I got the harness trimmed down a bit. I took way too much out of that Silverado. I am using lt1swap.com to trim down the harness, but I have a couple of custom things I want to retain and add as well and even though this is a big LS swap item, I can't seem to find any additional information on this.

For example, I wanted to see a pinout for each individual block in the back of the engine compartment fuse box. LT1swap tells you what to remove and what to keep but I want to make sure I am not missing something I may want to retain. Yet I can't find a clear document that has the information I am looking for. Also not really sure how to re-wire in the ALDL connector and decided today I want the car to have cruise control so I am going to run back and grab a cruise control box and make some custom switch's so I can put it in my center console. I need a wiring diagram for that as well. If anyone has links or pictures to that stuff I would appreciate if you could post it. I like to know EXACTLY what I am working with.

Thanks,

Dan

I'm done for the day... have to drop this off at the powder coater.

It would be easier to start with an aftermarket stand alone harness and then change the firing order or find someone to build it custom

With the truck harness, youre stuck with the top of intake routing and wrapping around the engine

I know how to use a soldering iron... lol

To be fair I called a couple of companies in regard to a wiring harness and when I told them what I was looking to accomplish they didn't approve. That's not to say they are wrong and I am right, this may not work... but I am willing to put the effort in and try.

A friend of mine used same deal on a turbo charged BBC it worked. Just have to get the runout dialed in. No more than .010

This is good to hear. By the time I order the pro flo intake (which I'm doing tomorrow actually) and the fuel system (which we still need to discuss) I am going to be into this for some $$$$

Why cut and solder...just move the pins around on the harness at the ecm connection

as far as the crank trigger goes you could use the stock one or grab one from eficonnection and have it fitted to your balancer like the guy above

And as I mentioned before this is a IV BBC not a VI so the eficonnection stuff will now fit. I called efi connection and they were unable to offer any assistance. The reason to solder the wires is because the big block is physically bigger and in certain sections the wires are just way too short (like the coils). The harness is going to require modification although I am going to try to uphold as much of its integrity as I possibly can.

that's what was done for the late 350 vans with 0411.

i read that post...sounds like you got it all figured out...good luck :chug:

Ran into a couple of small issues today. Was ready to order the Edelbrock Pro Flo intake for the bbc when I realized I have oval port heads and they only make it for rectangular port. So looks like that idea is sunk. I do have an even more interesting idea though. Back in the day when we owned C4 Corvettes the big mod was the accel miniram. I know they also made those for the big blocks as well. It's a. Lt1 style intake. I think this is going to be the ticket if I can find one for a reasonable price. My only concerns now are in regard to the idle air controller and the throttle position sensor. I am hoping other than wiring and plug changes that they work the same from LT to LS.
