Default ANOTHER Porsche 996 911 LS1 Swap

Howdy All, I finally decided to shut up and make an account.

Long story short; I cracked the head on my 2000 Porsche 911.

Frankly, I have no experience with engine swaps, zero, none. zilch. (Thank god for the internet, right?)

After stalking just about every build thread on here, I decided to make my own here for recording the swap, and if I have any burning questions.

(I honestly have never even put an engine on an engine stand until just now)

This swap will take some time, I have yet to order the Renegade swap kit. I am in the middle of purchasing my first house(with a two car garage, thankfully). Please bear with me, updates might be long and far away, but they will come. I unfortunately OWE on this car and I do not have the funds to fix it all at once. Especially with the house purchase on the way. I hope to have the engine in and running this winter.

Also I get to work in this tiny *** garage until I move into my new house.

TL;DR: Some experience wrenching, zero experience with engine swaps, broke my Porsche.

The forementioned car.

What the plans for the car, just an ls1 swap? It kind of sucks about the swap kit being a little pricey.

I will be interested in your journey. I have wanted a 911 for a long time and have run into a couple of nice deals on ones with blown engines. Rebuilding a Porsche engine seems to be as expensive as an airplane engine which is hard to believe.

Got some work done today.

I bought this as a complete drop out from a C10, so truck pan.

3 month update.

1. Bought a house! Finally moved out of my parents house (ripe age of 23, lol)
2. Baby on the way! Due date is 1/8/17!
3. 2 Car garage is obtained, floors are sealed, shelfing is in, lights are hung.
4. Bench built, a real work place now instead of working in a drive way.

Smile Quote Needed for 996/997 LS Swap Mounting Adapters

Hello, Txcarbuilder.

I am anxious to join the 996/997 build completion community.
Would you send me a quote for all that is needed to put an ls engine in a 99 to 03 car? I don't have the car yet but I am planning for a 450-475 whp rig.
I plan to use an LS3 water pump and GM p/S.

Thanks in advance.

Rod

Bringing back the dead post here.
Sorry, it's been almost a whole year since the last post. But I had a baby, finished moving, and life. right?

I got the adapter plate from Eric at KitCarChassis (Txcarchassis),

Huge thanks to SWAP Specialties, great set up, great customer service and good communication from their end, and they're local!
Purchased the harness/ecu from them.

Cool project , my friend bought a 2000 996 with the cylinder liner and head cracked as well. I was bugging him to do a LS swap as well only problem is his is an auto . Such a light chassis with the potential to put the power down would love to drive a swapped 996

Lol here is a picture of the carnage

The fuel system is complete! been awhile since I updated last... My son is 1 year old! Expecting another one here in 7.5 months!
Also updated the garage, insulation (cold michigan winters!), 220v heater, pegboard, and TV mounted in my tiny garage. what an update!
ANOTHER Porsche 996 911 LS1 Swap-62txyzz.jpg

Now, onto the car.
I bought Holley EFI Fuel Rail, mostly for the AN fittings.
180 degree AN fitting.
ANOTHER Porsche 996 911 LS1 Swap-sbve8xd.jpg:

I am using the C5 fuel filter/regulator, 996.1 has a fuel return line so this seemed to be my best bet.
This is my first time ending AN fittings! Easy, and worry free.
Thankfully, the 911 uses "bundy" fuel quick disconnect lines, so I purchased adapters to go from the hard fuel lines to AN6

Here is the fuel return

Fuel Feed

ANOTHER Porsche 996 911 LS1 Swap-xf0othm.jpg

I accidentally flip/flopped the feed/return on the C5 fuel filter regulator, i have since then fixed this, but I haven't taken a picture yet. Mounted in stock location.
ANOTHER Porsche 996 911 LS1 Swap-4ctsntb.jpg

Just enough length left! I ordered 10ft and it was just enough!
ANOTHER Porsche 996 911 LS1 Swap-feuq9ho.jpg

Part list:
Holley Sniper EFI Fuel rail
C5 Fuel Filter/Regulator
6AN SS Braided hose 10ft
6AN 180 Degree
6AN Hose end
6AN 90 Degree
8an to 6 AN
6an to 5/16 SAE QD Fitting

Moving on to the throttle cable assembly, I am going DBC, utilizing the original 996 DBC pedal, the interior is already stripped, looking forward to it!
Getting so close, I purchased a standalone harness from Swap Specialties (http://swapspecialties.com) here in Ovid, MI. They were great to work with! Time to get the coolant system sorted, drill a hole to run the ecu harness through, gunning for first start in March, road worthy by April!
