Same exact thing happened to me less than 5 passes on a freshened 5.3 before I installed a window in the number 5 cylinder wall. I feel for him it's easy to be discouraged when u put everything u have into one project u get it going and see others with similar builds having good results. Whatever most ppl get away with I can't get away with half as much so I learned way over build and it should be as good as a stock motor for everyone else. I had a shitty engine builder first then a shitty tuner. I ran 12lbs on stock ring gap that was supposed to be opened up and I was charged for it and then it had a **** tune wiped out the new bearing new eagle rods new cam and bearings etc. I spent enough for a crate 427lsx with two top dollar turbos and trans. Instead I still have 5.7 s476 and a decent trans. Keep ur head up we watched u do it once we can help watch u build another one

Combination of my boost controller not locked down and setting it to close to where it should be and my fuel pump randomly whining and running lean...guys I actually had a freaking blast and am not one bit mad about it all. I should have let out of it bt damn was it running good 1.6 60’ and 6.9 1/8th mile. Would have been a 10sec pass lol.

ill try and pick up another motor this week and swap it all over.

Rip first 4.8 block.

Forgot to add. Huge thanks to Romulus22 for helping me out last night at the track. Great dude. Hell he was driving my truck and trailer and I’ve only known him 3 hours lol

thanks man. For sure sucks but driving this car down the track is one of the funest things I’ve ever done. . Addicting for sure. The awesome part about this car/build is my wife is 100% on board with it. Hell if it wasn’t for her pushing me along this car would have been sold 6 months ago lol.

What I’m struggling with right now is I’ve been looking on car-part all morning at motors and I’m for sure not going to find the deal I got last time. But all the 4.8’s I’m seeing are pretty much the same price as 5.3s. I’d rather upgrade to a 5.3 especially since their the same price but then there’s the possibility that it will need retuned

The tune might be ok. I'm no expert on that and how much of a difference the CI will make. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.
My build has for sure not gone how I as hoping and it seems since I been home from work it's one damn thing after another. Good luck hunting a new engine

the engine was gone and it looked like you were getting in the brakes before the 1/8th too. You’ll be deep in the 10’s when you get a nice clean pass in.
Nice meeting up man.

Comb Craigslist I promise the deals are there. U may have to drive a hour or two but I can find a 4.8 short block for 200 if u go 5.3 u absolutely will need a tune don't risk it. Or save up and get a built short block and crank up the boost. If u get a 5.3 block from summit or Texas speed that is 3.903 bore already for like 900. 600$ forged pistons and 400$ rods so for 2k u have a forged 347 put 20lbs on it and go 9s

A buddy of mine found one threw a friend. Set me back about tree fiddy but I’ll have it Monday. It’s a 02 4.8. Works out I guess, don’t want to spend money on having it retuned again right now

When I get off work today I’ll start pulling my motor out. As long as my cam is untouched I’ll order my cage tonight or tomorrow too.

also going to order a new pump too. Does anyone have any suggestions on a external pump? I need to check my filters first before I throw a pump in but I want one here Incase it is it. Really don’t want to order another aem but I will if need be

One more thing on the roll bar/cage. Was going to grab a Rhodes race cars 6pt but was just looking at their 8pt. With their 8 point they sell the front section to convert to a 10pt later separate. I think that’s the route I will go.

Can't remember the company but a place in dfw has a nice cage setup for our cars and it's a room to grow cage so if u get a 6pt it will work with there 8 &10 point later on when u need to upgrade

Also every line connected to your engine u plan to reuse needs to be flushed and flushed and flushed again. Turbo feed turbo drain oil cooler lines oil pressure gauge etc. I do not re use an oil cooler after I grenade a bottom end I've seen the smallest shard of metal get stuck in lines after u think it's been cleaned as much as possible. Oil pan I run a gun cleaner brush through the inlet and outlet toss all filters etc. Because it could have sent metal into the lines before it let all the way go u can't be to thorough

Damn man sorry about the motor but another one is always around the corner which is the best part about these motors. That's funny you say that about the cam that seems to be the most questioned this is hoping the cam is good. Most times theyre as much as we spend on the motors! haha.
What pump do you have in the car now? Is that what you think killed it was a lean spike?
I finally brought my car to the dyno today so I could tune it. So I have a 2000 lq4/4l80e stock converter, stock cam, 243 heads, gt45. On 8.5 lbs and 15 degrees it made 403hp/479tq. I was happy with that for now, tuning it myself and not knowing a damn thing but what I did notice was my IAT never went over 111 beating this thing to death. I thought of you right away. Anyways, a little spirited driving on my way home and the motor is knocking BAD haha. Appears we're in the same boat I'll be curious what I did to this thing. Good luck on the next motor!

Swampstang good luck to you too man. I’m aggravated about pulling a motor with pretty much no time to do anything but other then that **** happens.

My pump would start whining randomly and i could see it running lean on my wideband. It didn’t do it all the time Friday but I imagine that with 15psi of boost did it. Thing left like a damn rocket though lol

Quick questions so I have a starting point soon. What gears did u use I went 3.55. What psi u leave at. How's traction launch,to big end and what is your suspension on this car as far as the rear goes. I have aje k member aje control arms and I forgot what coil overs are on it. The rear is mostly stock still so I'm trying to see how your traction is and if u think u need better adjustability in the rear to help. My stupid s10 is still showing insane amount of wheel speed at the traps so I know it never hooks all the way up. On the hwy it roasts them even at a hundred which is not desirable at all but once I learned the controller and how to shock the tires into hook as wheel speed comes up and the front lays over it just pulls like it should but a mustang is nothing like my s10 and I have had several s10s this is mustang #1
