Default Ragged Ragtop 68 Malibu carbed LS3

Just rolled out of the container after 20 years!
This 68 Malibu is my newest project. I stopped working on my 65 F85 to take on this project. It is a 307, three on the tree plane Jane Malibu drop top. manual top and windows, it does have power steering. While it needs both quarters, the rest is more solid than the Cutlass. So all the running gear from the Cutlass will go into the Malibu.
I have a 2012 LS3 that I am rebuilding back to stock except for a slightly larger cam, a GM carb intake and an MSD6014. I have a T400 and powerglide but this car has the clutch pedals still in it so who knows. 9in Ford Moser rear end with 98 up Camaro brakes and 3.70s.
I have already ordered the quarters and the shop is turning to on the new project. I owned this car 20 years ago and sold it to my buddy the hotrod shop guy who kept it in a container. When he told me he wanted to sell it I told him to push the Cutlass back into it's box and get on the Malibu.
Hopefully the body work will be done by October when we return to Texas from our other home in Sonoma. I always liked the Roadkill Buick drop top that they fixed up and this project will be something like that.
With the new LS3, new suspension etc. it should be fun to drive.

Both of the quarter patch panels came with the car but that right quarter has a lot of bondo and it's easier to just replace both.

Great looking car! I like your hood scoop. It reminds me of a Motion Camaro I had back in 1969. It had an L88, M22 and 4.10s but it really needed 4.88s. I think my best was 11.27et.
I am hoping to best that number with this car.

Thank you and you are looking at the first motion style glass hood that was made from VFN. They were boasting all over chevelles.com that they had the idea. Lol. After a couple of argumentative posts I won but sad part is that i still havent seen a royalty check. They didnt even have a clue untill I sent them pictures of what i was talking about. I have the same combo you are putting in your chevelle. If you need advice just PM me. The only thing about a Ford 9" is the pinion has a lower centerline than a 12 bolt and it becomes a little harder to get pinon angle right with a LS engine. Buy the newest Holley pan and nothing else..not even the older Holley pans.

Thanks for the information. I understand about the 9 inch pinion angle, I do have adjustable upper arms and I have the correct Holley pan and I am going to use their entire swap setup.

Here is a picture with the trunk open, you can see the old patch panels and assorted parts. The floors in this car are a lot better than the quarters.

About as basic as you can get no A/C, no power brakes just power steering. This car should be pretty light with the LS3, a few hundred pounds under a new Camaro!

Hey Tony I can finally see your pictures. Where did you get the side markers with LS2 on them? I was considering SS badging for my car with SS376 emblems instead of SS396. Anyway your car looks great.
Jarhead
PS Last car that I drove that looked as shiny as yours is the old Alabama Express rocket funny car. Picture enclosed

Yes I made the side markers on an X Y CNC router table I had. Cut them in Aluminum and had them chromed. They are slightly larger than stock.

Here is this mornings shot before the sun got on it. Snows all gone !

Hey I like this body style in Yellow, you should fine a nice modern yellow with fine silver metallic and go with it. I think the Dodge Crossfire had that color.

Thanks, Tony
