Anybody ever use a shortened Crown Vic Aluminum Driveshaft in swap?
I know the P71 aluminum driveshafts in Crown Vics are too long for my 71 GM A-body, but its sure tempting to get one from a pick and pull for $30 and pay another $80 or so to get it shortened. Anybody ever do this and any reason why it wouldn't be a cost effective upgrade? Thanks for you thoughts.

If it fits (larger diameter sometimes hits bottom at full suspension compression depending on application) and you can get a QUALITY job done for $110-$150 (don't forget new u-joints, possibly new tranny yoke) - jump on it. Everything is better - torque transmission, less NVH, higher critical speed, less parasitic loss due to lower weight, etc.
Word of warning - try to get one that's still in the car - you remove it. Often they're on the ground having been removed by others to get at another part. Even dropping one end of it can introduce enough runout that they're useless. And you won't be able to see that kind of damage with the naked eye. Most find out when the shop that's going to alter it call and say "it's bent, can't use it."
