Maybe this solution will last.

might not be the cleanest look but what about getting longer wires and going over and around the manifolds? itll beat having to replace wires all the time.

Turns out, besides the poor header design, I made a big mistake myself that was causing the plug wire issue.

I used sloppy mechanics base tune for the 1000whp Colorado. It made sense Matt had the knock sensors turned off to make that kind of power. So when I saw the knock sensors were turned off ( set to “0” knock sensors), I simply changed the “0” to “2” since I have clearly have two. I also assumed at some point he had the knock sensors turned on. Well.... he didn’t. The freq, sensitivity, and type were all wrong for a 3rd gen LS. So what the Holley saw was 100% knock, 100% of the timing. The retraction to knock at ANY rpm was negative 15 degrees of spark timing. With low timing comes heat in the exhaust.

Turned the knock sensors off (“0”) and that’s when the car woke up and has not burned a plug wire since.

So this morning, I opened up a base tune for a 5.3L stock truck motor and swapped in the correct settings (pictured above).

So.... my fault

Was this tune published where I could use it a a starting point as well. I am using Holley and lot of his combination and it would be helpful to at least look it over. Thanks... Great find of figuring out what was going on by the way.

Hey, Doug, just SM me your email address and I’ll send it to you. I think Matt pulled all his bass tunes off
the wiki page because he was tired of hearing people complain.
“Your base tune blew up my motor and killed my dog” lol.

But still have 100% unmolested bass tune.
