6.0 6l90 swap crank but no start

This is my first post so if it is in the wrong section I apologize. I have a l96 6.0 I'm trying to get started in ny 87 chevy 4x4. It's an e78 ecm tuned by black bear performance. It turns over and cranks but wont start. It has spark and fuel in the rail but no fuel seems to be getting into the cylinder due to the spark plugs looking lean and has no kind of gas smell. All the connections seem to be good and plugged in correctly along with the fuse box. The fuel pump primes correctly and the selector valve works correctly. It did try to start with some starting fluid sprayed on the air filter but never took off. The motor only has 3600 miles on it and it was running in the van when I pulled it out in may. I did email black bear but no response yet. The injectors do have power coming to them correctly. I'm not sure if they pulse or not though. I'm really stumped what could be causing this issue? Black bear said the vats was removed when I got the tune.

thanks!

If it was VATS it would fire then shut off. Check all connections and grounds. It's easy to miss one or more. Also check the crank and cam sensors.

I didnt even know that about the vats. I'll check those as soon as I can next weekend.

So the injectors do have 12v when the switch is on. I dont know if they're pulsing or not though when I try to crank it. I'll test it with the noide light this weekend.

If the tune didnt delete the vvt (since I deleted the vvt) would that cause a no start?

One thing not mentioned so far- GROUNDS . Check EVERY one.

I know. That's just something I forgot to mention in the first post. I cant check the grounds until this weekend. I'm not near the truck.

there were some plugs I removed from the harness that had grounds attached to them, I wouldnt think I'd need these since I kept everything attached to the motor I wouldnt think.

Check a wiring loom pic and see if any needed grounds were bundled with any wires you cut off

gotcha. Will do

Jobobcat 12-06-2018 11:58 AM

Well all grounds are good. The computer tune has VATS deleted. Its sparking so I'd think the crank sensor is fine. Any other ideas?

Jobobcat 12-06-2018 06:46 PM

Anyone?

G Atsma 12-06-2018 07:20 PM

What about injectors? Injecting?

461rat 12-06-2018 07:22 PM

Is it getting fuel?

Check the TPS, if its reading wrong it may also give you some issues, I have heard.

No. I havent had a chance to put a noid light to it to see if its pulsing or not though. When I turn it over it's not even trying to hit. I'm thinking it's either all 8 injectors are clogged (doubtful, it ran in april/may when I pulled the motor) not enough fuel pressure (highly doubtful with a 340 lph pump and a corvette filter regulator). I doubt it's the crank sensor because it sparks fine (I'm not 100% sure on this though). Maybe I plugged the cam sensor in wrong when I deleted the vvt and when I went to re attach the plug, but that wouldnt cause it to not start would it? I just cut off the vvt plug from the solenoid and kept the other wire the same. I did change the cam sensor though with the vvt delete kit. The injector fuse is fine. The motor only has 3600 miles on it.

I'll be slapping a noid light on it tomorrow. Is there anything else it could be?

I'll check that out. Thanks!

sorry, missed the first question. It's got fuel at the rail. But it's not going into the cylinder.

Check all injector connections AND recheck the grounds. It's easy to miss something

Vats

Hi, I swapped L96 to my jeep. Vats is more complicated on gen4 and I did not get it running until disabling that, not even a splitsecond

hope that you find it

It's not at all unlikely that all 8 injectors could be stuck from sitting for 7 months with the crap gas we have these days. Put a nod light on it and if it's getting a pulse, then pull the rail and see if they are spraying, if not soaking them in Seafoam overnight will usually loosen them up.
