Also the Holley system seems to line up with the FITech 70050 offering... But FITech is at a better price point. Unless there is a huge feature mismatch that I am missing between the two? But in my quick read they seem about the same.)
The biggest difference between the two for now is Fitech does not cover drive by wire.

For someone like me,, doing a swap in to a 94 Jeep Wrangler,, this is a very tempting option,
Looking for one of the ones that comes in at about 280hp + a AL block.
(No boost few mods, DOD removed, and the weight matters in my case... )

I'm already going to be pretty deep with mounts and adapters and stuff to fit it in, so a clean standalone is pretty cool.

I do find the cost of the HP tuners package annoying,,

Besides that, isn't FITech batch-fire rather than sequential?

"Real DIY" that MIGHT work vs. "Legoland parts assemblies" that DO work. I prefer the latter.
Performance should not be guesswork if it can be avoided

I read through more of the X manual and I see no reason why Flex-Fuel would not be supported. The system has the correct input type available and that will be configurable through the software. It also has the advanced tables functionality, so fuel flow, spark, and target AFR can be specified for different % of ethanol.

"real" DIY means being thorough enough to test your rework of the wiring, Making sure you KNOW what each circuit does etc..
I wish I had a buck for every DNF I traced to a crap wiring hack job.. Guys will spend 50K on a motor and won't spend a few bucks on a good aftermarket harness, or spending the time to correctly restrap a harness.

vs

DIY ,, reusing crap wire, wire nuts and twist ties and expecting it all to go well.

Agreed! I think Holley is trying to help avoid the latter example cited above with good plug-and-play gear meant to get a project going RIGHT.
The former example is still in mind as one can concentrate on the real issues present in projects such as those aimed at here with this stuff.

Oh yea,, for me the HP tuner thing is the bigger deal,, I'm fine with tearing a harness down.. and I am not in a hurry ..

For a lightly modified stock motor, in a non original car I don't see many options that completely beat a setup like this..

I started out with Electromotive/Motech standalone's on race cars,, so its not a wiring fear for me its that I only have limited time to work on my pet projects..

I design $$$$$$$$$$$ emergency vehicles all day every day and know a little about electronics and when I reworked my harness I used the best materials and practices available. It fired right up on the engine stand and in the car but I ended up with a broken circuit in the middle of the harness that I had to rework in the car. New harnesses are better that reworking 18 year old wiring any day. For example we just rewired and up fitted a huge vehicle we built in 1996 with the latest tier to tier multiplex control system and the very first thing we did was rip out every wire in the truck.

I typically use a factory harness and build a jig on a piece of plywood, then reconstruct from scratch with high strand count silicone insulated wire, then pyro-wrap the whole thing.. It's not cheap. Even with me doing al the work. easy to drop 2 to 3 hundred in wire and pins and connectors. I also LABEL the wires with unique numbers on each circuit. Also time consuming, I'd never make a living doing it.. LOL

Painless is my other go-to if I need a knock together harness for something..

I've been reading this thread for a while now, and I'm sure things have gotten WAY better in the last 25 some odd years, but this still gives me PTSD flashbacks from my old Holley Pro-Jection. LOL!!!

I had that installed on my GTO back around 91-92. Bought it at Super Shops. We're old.

Yeah, things have gotten way better on both the OE and aftermarket side of things.

We ARE old. I was talking to someone about Super Shops last summer and a younger guy overheard the conversation when he walked up and said "what? Where is that place?" He hadn't heard of them. Come to find out he was BORN a few years before they closed. Geez...

Yeah... about that lmfao. I just had to google them.

Honestly though this looks like a great alternative to reworking a harness or even buying just a harness. I'm interested to see how it would handle some boost but I'd imagine since the map is only one bar it wouldn't be the crazy amounts that everyone seems to want?

When doing a boosted application with the X, the internal MAP sensor is disabled and an external MAP sensor is installed.
