69 Z28 to get an ls3 I am planning to put an ls3 (and possibly 6 speed automatic) into 69 camaro. Planning to salvage from wrecked auto. Is there any reason to not use truck or suv (clearance issues). Currently have lt1 and 4l60E, trans. built to handle 500hp. I desire 500hp naturally aspirated and low as possible rpm. Week end toy, no intent to race. |

To be exact, LS3's came only in Camaros and Corvettes, and in Camaros, only with manual trannies. Are you thinking of the L92? that was a truck engine. |

I think he's referring to the full-size SS sedan - didn't the 2009+ Pontiac G8's also come with LS3? Those sedans in addition to the Camaro/Corvette applications... |
Fifth gen Camaros had LS3s from 2010-2015. In 2016 was 6th Gen and LTx engines. Andrew |
Of course the C7 Vette in the same time frame moved from LS3 to the direct inj version LT1 |
you are correct about the ls3 name plate. The 6.2 in Escalades/ light pickup ect. are very similar engines. |
Ye olde L92 |

....and valve timing --- tuned the motor for more torque lower in the rev range. |
Different intakes...lol...the list of differences is huge. However, to his point, the basic long blocks are mostly the same. Andrew |

10.5 to 10.7 (3) - so piston top and or combustion chamber is also different. |

Not as similar as some think. The LS3 never had AFM or VVT. The L92 had vvt, while the L94 had both vvt and AFM. There are also differences in the valves. Andrew OP, friend of mine has an all original '69 Z28 that he's owned since the 70s, I love those cars. Sad to see yours won't have a DZ302 but the LS3 will be much more street friendly with a much broader powerband. |
Get a dropout L99 with the automatic transmission and wire harness. It will be the easiest and best way to go. |
