Default What to power my hauler!!!??!!!

I have a 1970 C-10 pickup, yes a pickup, that I am putting an LS1 backed with a 4L60E tranny. I have $4,500 to invest in the entire motor, yes, I realize that is pretty stingy. I found a motor from LPE that is dynoed @ 410 hp and 400 ft/lbs torque @ the flywheel for $4500. I also found a junkyard motor and tranny for a combined price of $3,800. Are there any specific year engines that are better than others to upgrade? Any help will keep me from going insane with all the options. Also if anyone has any shop rat motors laying around that they are looking to part with, talk to me.

98-2000 had egr and air, the 2001-2002's had the ls6 intake,no egr, no air, and better flowing manifolds.
2001-2002's dyno a little higher than the 98+ ones did
