Default Thinking of an turbocharged LS1 Mustang Notchback

I was thinking of doing a:

1987-1993 4 cylinder Notcback

Engine:
Swap in a 346 LS1 w/Diamond forged pistons
ARP studs throughout
Custom Futral cam/heads
Custom single turbo kit
LS6 intake
No more than 12 PSI of boost

Tranny:
Rossler TH400 and possibly Gear Vendor's Overdrive Unit

Rear:
Beefed 8.8 rear w/5 lug conversion at all 4 corners
Dennys NR DS

Suspension:
QA1 K-member and A-arms
Caster/camber plates
Custom shock/strut per Sam Strano

Fuel:

Nasty N8 or equivalent fuel rails
Fuel pump

Interior:

6 - point NHRA cage
Corbeau front seats
Custom gauges
Sound deadener

Exterior:
Silver
2" cowl hood
CCW 505As, 18 x 11 rear and 18 x 9 front
Cobra brake conversion
Braided stainless lines

Tuning:
HP tuners w/Modified Speartech harness

I think it'd make a great toy car, would run mid 10s on street tires, dead reliable and light!

Opinions?

DO IT! It'd be nice to see a street-car-style swap into a fox-body.

I'd bet that an out of the box fox body kit will work with some mods (flanges, inlet tubing, etc.)

Oh, and I'd go with a 4L80E if you can get it to fit...or just a t56. That 400-GVOD would be combersome IMO.

I'd keep everything the same but the TH400. BORING!

It needs a G-Force 6-speed

I'm assuming TH400/GV to be actually driven, no? PGs aren't very street friendly, at least not for actual driving. I was thinking the same thing this morning. I have a 85 notch I bought for an LS1 project and was thinking of 346 single turbo...

Why is a glide not as street friendly as a TH400?

That's what I'm talkin about!

I'm throwing every little trick I've learned over the last few years into it. I've got the interior already gutted and will start working on the suspension during the summer or so.

I'm just more into being able to cruise, and 1:1 don't cut it, so neither is street friendly for me, but 2 speeds is just not enough, hate to wind it out all the time....

It's not the winding out that is the issue. A glide has a 1.76 low compared to a 1.48 2nd gear in the TH. Essentially, it'd be like starting in 2nd all the time with a TH. If there is any reason why the PG is inferior, its the slightly greater strain put on the tranny while accelerating from a dead stop.

Bottom line is that neither is a good street tranny compared to a modern overdrive, but one is no worse than the other.

fair enough, but like I said, anything NON-OD is not for me. It should be noted 99% of all info on this board is OPINION, that certainly falling in the 99%

I must admit, I have a C4 auto (non OD) and 4.10 gears in my 93 GT, and it indeed sucks *** to drive on the street. Anything over 60 is torture.
