Default LS1 in Solstice

I've been debating on whether or not to swap the engine out instead of going the Turbo route (especially with my insurance not being affected).

Any idea on how much work would be involved in swapping out the 2.4L Ecotec that's in there for an LS1? I know Mallett Cars just did an LS2 swap and they only had to beef up the transmission, other then that it handled the load.

didnt Mallet Cars also use the LS2's tranny and swap in a beefier rear end?

I would guess they did some subframe mods but the Solstice/Sky are rather tall shouldered cars so the LS1/2/6 might fit under their hoods without dropping the front subframe.

if its an easy install then I'd be in the market for a Solstice/Sky for sure.... but I wonder what their engien bays look like without the Ecotoec motor.

I found a shop willing to do the conversion, I have to check my finances, but how much of a price difference is the LS2 vs the LS1?

Then there's no question, LS2 it is. Now I just need my car to be delivered, it's been sitting at the plant since the 14th of October.

Just spoke with Mallet today at SEMA. Said the only way to make it all integrate properly was writing his own software using the '06 Solstice computer to make it work. Might want to look in to that part of it more before diving in.

Hennytime, is that SRT-4 you mention in your sig really that fast, or are you taking a crack at the FWD 4-cylinder crowd? Just wondering....

A LS swap into one of these cars would be cool as hell. We have a Ferrari 308 (all of 205hp) sitting in our showroom that I've been considering putting a LS2 engine into. Bob

the only problem i see with that weekend racer is that the top's lines drop below the apillar.it makes it look choppy.if the top window line started off the top of the windsheild it would flow so much better.Has pontiac not produced any hardtops yet? Will they be released later or did they decide to release them at all?i was under the impression both versions would be available once the car was out there with the turbo following but i havnt heard anything of anyone buying a hardtop.

You'll be able to buy a hard top soon. For the winter months I plan on using one.

I'm suprised no one has posted the link to Mallets Website.

http://www.mallettcars.com/solstice-conversion.htm

There's been lots of hype about the solstice, but in my mind, it doesn't have much to offer me. With an LSX motor it would have the power covered, but the styling and size doesn't appeal to me.

345s would look interesting on a car that small.
