painless didn`t include a plug? What year computer are you running? If it is a 98 you will have to add in a light or resistor. If it is a 99+ computer there should be a red wire in connector C2 (blue connector) pin #15 on the computer that goes to the weatherpack connector pin B on the alt.

is the motor supposed to connect to the alternator at all? Why does the computer need to know what voltage its putting out?

The alternator hookup depends on the year, 97-98`s are like old SBC`s, the alternator exciter wire connects to an idiot light, or a resistor. In PCM`s that sre 99 or newer the computer acts as the resistance source for the alt. exciter wire.

my ecu/engine is from a 2002 WS6.

it didn't come with a plug on it nor can i find a wire for it in the harness anywhere. i also don't have a spare plug to use but i'll make due just for now with some creative work with small spade connectors. i found a site that said that there were two wires that needed to be connected.

let me know if this is correct (from the site modified for easier understanding):

looking down on the alternator in the car, we'll call the 4 pins starting from driver's side A,B,C,D. A and C are unused. B gets wired to switched 12v with either a 50ohm resistor or a small light bulb in line. D gets wired to constant battery 12v per their instructions.

What year engine/ECU re you using? I think the 2nd post in this thread says it all pretty well.

If the alternator is from an 02 f-body you only have one wire to worry about. The power for terminal D is already sourced internally in the alt so no external wiring is needed. Terminal B needs a switched ignition source either wired through an idiot light for the dash or a 470 Ohm 1/2 watt resistor. If you can get the search to work LS7Power has wiring diagrams, but I can`t seem to find the link right now. There is also info in this thread https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ght=alternator

you guys are life savers! thanks!

car started right up after i got the air out of the fuel system and is charging nicely. i ran two 220ohm resistors i had laying around in series so i think 440 Ohms should work ok.

Yeah, 440 ohms should be close enough.
