Default 5.3 iron blocks bored= 5.7??

Is it possible to have a budget build up using a 5.3 liter motor and do the following? Thus making it a 5.7 liter iron block? Any benefits? Will it make just as much power with bolt ons as a LS1? or less? can it handle more nitrous?

What are the pros and cons of doing this? Becuase this setup can be put together for pretty cheap... just need your opinons

we've done it- .120 5.3L Ran it on a whippled silverado for 2 years and 70,000 miles with no problems (except the truck started itself on fire in a cornfield)

I am not sure that speed pro Hyper pistons exist for LS1's. I could be wrong though but I couldn't find any oversize Hyper pistons for the LS1 when I was doing my rebuild

you may be on to something. 5.3's are dirt cheap. if you can build it up stronger than 5.7 for less than cost than 5.7, it sounds like the way to go.

This has been done plenty of times and is well known about. The thing is that you have to bore it out a bit to get 5.7L which will make the cylinder walls a bit thinner, which can lead to weakening. I am sure if built and tuned right it would be very reliable. Keep in mind tough that the 5.3 block is also iron which is much heavier then the aluminum LS1. Thats why i am just gonna spend the extra $$ on the ls1 block, i dont want to add weight to the car.

I would also imagine that the aluminum 5.3's would need to be resleeved and not just punched out.

I believe the aluminum block is about 65 lbs lighter than the iron block.
