Default 93 Del sol ls1 swap

Just wondering if a ls1 would fit, or could you make it fit in a 93 del sol?

i know there would be major hacking to make it RWD, along with a lot other stuff.

just throwing ideas around.

you would have to basically build a frame, then drop a del sol body on it.

There was a thread on the forum a year ago or so, I recall someone was doing a Prelude with a LS1.

I've seen that before and it just barely fit. There's no way you could get one into a del sol without completely hacking it to pieces.

Get a miata instead. I had a delsol before and that swap would be a very complicated project. Not worth the effort IMO.

Plus that car is a convertible and gets it stiffness from the floorboard hump and since youd be cutting that, you make the car very weak. I would twist from the torque unless you welded the roof shut.

I remember that Prelude was NUTS!!!! I am kicking around the idea of the Impala SS running gear in an 96-00 Civic HX..... I'd have to get my Twin Turbo-Dry Sumped-LS1 powered 300ZX done first though....

hmm yea that does seem like a lot of work, instead of welding the roof shut, couldnt i just weld some sub frames side to side?

gonna also need to triangulate between the subframes so you dont have front to back flex, or twist.

man i dont know how much positive support you are gonna get. this project is gonna cost you 15,000-20,000$ to do. im all for doing crazy **** but at the end of the day you have to ask is it worth the time, money and effort?

but to each his own and best of luck.

ive always wanted to do a miata, s2k or a 240z (would obviously be way easier)

good luck and keep us updated

i'd do it for you for $8K, you provide the motor, tranny, driveshaft, custom axles, and rear end.. now speaking from experience your gonna need another $4K when im done.. im currently building a 2002 Subaru WRX LS1, and if i were you id get an RX7 buy the kit, maybe spend $10K total and have one badass RX7, with some nice *** paint and wheels...

yea i looked at his build....

and just from looking at that, the weight of the del sol would go from stock of 2500lbs, add all that extra frame, motor, trans, rear end... and were talking like 3400-3700lbs...

IMO i just dont think its worth dumping that much time and money into if my turbo WS6 will beat it easy....

i thought about just buying the shell today anyways and putting a 4banger and turbo... but thats just point less lol

[QUOTE=05 GSXR 1XXX;7221054]Just wondering if a ls1 would fit, or could you make it fit in a 93 del sol?

i know there would be major hacking to make it RWD, along with a lot other stuff.

I have a friend that did it to an 96 integra. Its all motor and runs 9s at the 1/4. Im about to by a 97 del sol and try something diffrent. I want to make it awd with rb26 just for fun. But it would be hard. So i am going to most likely do a ls or f20.

Would it be more feasible to keep it front wheel drive and swap an ls4? Just an idea.
