Are you asking with the cluster work in your 71 truck? If so, I doubt it (in fact, I'll just go ahead and say "no, it won't").

Now, I do know that you can swap V6/110 MPH dashes in 4th gen F-bodies (Camaro's to Camaro's, and Firebirds, to Firebirds) for a 150 speedo. I have seen a few LS1 guys with Firebirds install the Camaro clusters in, so thats proabably doable to, but I don't know if there was anything extra involved in getting it done past the pull one out, put one in job that the Firebird to Firebird, Camaro to Camaro gage swap would be.

Also, this needs to be posted in the Newbie Tech, or General car info section, definatly NOT in the internal engine Generation III section it currently is in.

I don't even think the connections are the same. The harnesses are different. I've never manually checked the differences between the two I own, but I guarantee they are different. You could make it work, but it would suck to have a 110 speed when you could have a 150.

so call are you saying if a guy does a ls1 swap in a v6 car he can use the v6 guages and it will work but the speedo will be off??

i ask this cause im doing a swap (but i had a custom wiring harness built and it has leads off it for all of the guages so i have to tap into the factory cluster harness so really im thinking mine will work fine but just thought i would ask.)

sorry to hi jack

The speedo will not be off. I used to have a 94 Formula that had the 110 MPH speedo (the same as in the V6's). I swapped it for a newer (97) 150 speedo. It is a direct swap that will not have any ill effect on your speedo (in other words, it won't be off, and your MPH will be correct.)

Now, what I said to the original poster is that if he is doing an LS1 swap in his 71 truck, unless he somehow is swapping all the electrics, and the dash out of an LS1 for his truck, I can't see how the speedo will work. Anything can work if you do what is required, but you are talking a lot of wiring, and electrical work, not to mention some custom fabbing to make that dash fit and work correctly in that old 71 truck.

i grabbed a v6 one out of the junkyard just to have some makshift gauges (there were no v8 ones) some one said my tach would be off, but dont they both just read like 2 pulses per rev or something, because i also read somewhere that v6 cars can just have the 150 gauge cluster dropped right in?

All the gages weather its a V6 or a V8 car are interchangeable, and will be accurate as long as its a 94-97 Firebird. I don't know what else to tell you other than "it will work fine". The two gage clusters are identical in shape and size and have the same pin insert in the back and will both read the RPM and the speed the same from your car.

I am not one to say it will work if it won't (in others words I don't )
