Been looking at the different pans and was wondering wihich would be the easier fit into my 70 Camaro? I havent seen to many posts with people using a modified truck pan, seen plenty of the ones for using a Fbod pan. I was wonder if I hack off and reweld a truck pan how many quarts of oil a 2inch hack off of the sump section would leave me in quarts and which pick-up tube would I have to use or can I still use the truck pick-up tube? Needs some thoughts on this before I commit and buy a truck pan instead of a Fbod pan.

if you can weld aluminum i'd say go for it. the truck pan holds more oil than any of the passenger pans anyway, so less one quart makes it the same as a car pan. cut the verticle length out of the pickup tube weld it back together, done.

This is a picture of the truck pan installed on a LQ9 in a 1978 trans am. I replaced it with a f-body pan. I was going to cut a couple of inches out of it and reweld the bottom of the pan. I couldn't find a cheap place to weld the aluminum pan for me so I paid $240 for the f-body setup. I have the complete truck pan for sale if you want it. The truck pan is 6 qts.

how many quarts does your Fbod pan hold? Did you modify your Fbod pan or did you work the member to get it to fit?

welding "dirty" aluminum can be tuff. some shops/customers don't want to pay for cleaning parts, and just buy new.

F-body pan fits without cutting the crossmember. I think there is around .5" clearance. It will depend on which type of motor moounts you use. I have my engine placed close to the firewall. I changed the pan, dipstick tube and pickup tube with the engine in the car. I had to raise it off the mounts though. If you are using the truck accessories you will want the engine to sit close to the firewall so the p.s. pump pulley clears the steering box. If you would like some more pictures, send me an email. A new f-body pan and all required parts is about $240 new from P&G chevrolet. I'm selling the truck pan and all parts for $100 shipped. It has been washed twice in my dishwasher to clean it.

Is the steering linkage in front of the crossmember on a 70? If so, wouldn't it be easier to just notch a piece off the back of the crossmember if needed and put in the f-body pan?

You might want to check out the new H3 pan. They work great on the s10 swaps, and you can get them from GMpartsdirect for $165 with the pick-up and dipstick.

really, are you talking about a H2 maybe, I thought the H3 hasnt gotten a V8 yet. Anybody have use one yet for a 2Gen?

shows that the H3 pan is 7.5" from top to bottom, wonder if that would stick out beneath the member?

I have a 06 5.7 GTO pan, wonder if I can cut off the front section that sticks down?

You might laugh about cleaning that pan in the dish washer but I "baked" the paint on a set of valve covers in our new oven one night before the wife got home. It worked great and she only wanted to know what that smell was. I never told her.

You can also try the CTS-V pan.. only one more inch deeper than a F-Body pan.. but also a shorter (front to back) rear slump. I am running one in my Chevelle.

hmmm that sounds good to, like 76LQ9TA said that some motor mounts set the Fbod Pan back from the cross member by .5. So the CTSV one would be a good inch of insurance. Im gonna look close at the GTO pan this weekend, I think I might be able to slice the lip on the front off of that pan.
