Default The LQ4 6.0 Datsun 280Z Build

Started with a buddy telling me he found a "datsun".. so I figured it would be the usual beat down rusty pile of crap. That night, we went and scoped this "Datsun" and I was extremely suprised, that this car was in basically mint condition, ran, and drove, had a nice interior.. and only wanted a 1000$!!

I did whatever I could within the next 2 weeks to get this beauty..

See how happy I was?

At the time, I was convinced that a cheap SBC swap was my only option. Eventually I said, hey, its not that much more, why not put an LT1 in it? Everyone thought it was a grand idea.

Then my buddy who is a body man for a local shop, took some sandpaper to a rough spot and I about **** my pants, it was like 80 Grit.. paint was SCREWED.. and all he had to say was, "Well youre painting it too, right?"

So within a few days.. it went from this...

To this...

Then I went into a gas station.. and was leavin, and seen something outta the corner of my eye.. I about shat myself!!

I had to do it!

Wasn't feeling too great about the car, looked like poop. So we worked on it for about 2 months straight, every night, for hours.. and eventually.. we used his places paint booth and got some work done. At this point I was "kinda happy".

Hard work paid off, it was nice

So I was at work one day, and my buddy showed me a dyno sheet of a LQ4 with L92 heads.. I about shat.. then he told me how cheap it could be done.. I shat again! So I started looking for stuff, sold my KTM supermoto, and bought a 2002 LQ4 and a 2004 GTO T56.. swap mounts, swap headers, wheels, fender flares, all that good stuff.

Here are some pics of it coming together..

Annd a nice photochop

So far, its came to the point where all I need now is a better fuel pump. Its came quite a long way for my income and the time we have had to do this. I set my deadline at spring.. and it looks like I met it!!

It starts but doesnt stay running. Fuel pump only has enough flow to start it, but the rails instantly drop pressure when it fires. But im still extremely happy!!

As soon as I get my job back, more progress will happen. Until then, criticize!!

Here is a vid of a run through the hood..

Wasn't a VATS problem, it was a very very elusive ignition problem.

I think I about SHAT, when it fired and my speakers were turned way up! Holy crap that thing was loud.

Anyways, sweet ride. I've always loved the "other" Z series.

He put it on the back burner for a little while.. has other things going on from what he's told me. I know he had it tuned and it was running well.
