LS1 into a 51 Chevy Pick-Up Does anyboody know if a 2000, LS1 motor with a 4L60 transmission would fit into a 1951 Chevy truck. I no the tans and motor mounts would have to be added, but I am not sure if the engine would fit in the engine compartment and if the electronics would work correctly woth out the stock exhaust system. Also does anybody sell a aftermarket wiring harnesss that would make the install easy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Greg |
You will have no problem with fitting the Gen III/IV engines into you truck, as they are smaller than a BBC, which is done all of the time. Fab'in up the motor mount and trans mount is no different that any other engine swap. Some of the companys may have kits.. I know Speedway has some parts listed for Trucks. Exhaust.. you can either run the stock manifold or go to aftermarket header (either shorties, mid's or Long Tube). If your going with the EFI setup, you will just need to use one set of O2 Sensors and can have a O2 Bunt welded in the collector (if not already there). Wiring - You can buy a aftermarket wiring kit (Painless or others) or send it to companys like Speartech to have modified and they can also do your PCM programing. If you do a search, you should find a few swaps either completed or in progress. If there are specific question.. ask away and the forum members will give you a ear full ! LOL... Good luck and keep us posted once you get started. |
yes it will I am swaping a 5.3/ 4L60 into a 50 model chevy truck. same basic motor. my stock truck manifolds were not even close to fitting. I am going with headers. |
Awesome! We have a 53 Chevy we are looking at swapping a 5.3 into....I'll be keeping an eye on your progress. |
I'm hoping to put an LS in my 50 3100 one of these days (there are a few projects ahead in line). My understanding is they easily go onto standard cab long box S-10 frames. I hope to do that so I can run the S10 tank and aftermarket mounts. Am I off base? Also pics please! |
7 Attachment(s) here are some pics of mine 5.3 into a 50 chevy truck. I am also going with a recessed firewall. it would work with the stock firewall but I like the smooth firewall look. front suspension is a Heidts mustang II and the rear has a TCI leaf kit and a 9 inch ford rear end Attachment 623032 Attachment 623033 Attachment 623034 Attachment 623035 Attachment 623036 Attachment 623037 Attachment 623038 |
not hard to do, I put 1 in a 51 GMC. Its a sweet combo. bczee pretty much summed it up. 1950 chevy pickup engine swap 1 Attachment(s) Hi Noreastfish, I have installed an LSA into my 1950 3100 without any need to modify the engine bay. As you can see, there is heaps of room. Just need to ensure you mount the ps below and the alternator above, will not fit due to chassis and frame clearances. Cheers Shaun |
1950 chevy truck with LSA motor 1 Attachment(s) Another shot of the LSA install in my 1950 truck |
I'm installing a 2006 Silverado LS in my 51 Chevy truck the only issues I've run into so far is the stock exhaust manifolds hit center of my stock frame, I've tried headman block hugger headers and they don't fit either, so I ordered a set of hooker cast iron block hugger manifolds from dirty dingo and crossing my fingers they will fit I don't want to have a custom set made |
