Default Potential swap headers, might help someone...

Hi All,

After a few months of sweating out headers for my Maverick swap, I finally took the plunge and bought a set of GM flanges (#12480130) and BBK-1569 headers. Flanges were $19 each from Hendrick Chevrolet, and the headers were $349 from Jeg's. The headers are for a 351W swap into a fox-body Mustang. Buying a set of engine swap headers from "pictures" is a hit or miss proposition, and I got really lucky on this one. If you have a tight engine compartment with R&P steering, these might work for you. BTW, the distance between the frame rails is 26" and there is about 3/4" per side on the headers.

Very nice and good work. What did you use to get the tubing at the ports round again?

Just a flattened pipe nipple, I would recommend getting a longer one and removing the threads though, the insides of the pipes are chewed up a bit... Put the nipple in a vise, then walk the (port) tubing around the nipple. It'll still need a bit of hammer forming.

nice. i know i've seen people mention they went this route when doing an LSx in a fox body, you make it look plain simple! not to mention cheap! I just can't justify spending $600-$700 on a set of KooKs swap headers!

Boy I like that. I am looking at options for a first gen Camaro LSX swap. I find it hard to justify a $700 price tag for a set of headers no matter how beautiful.

Same here! The money saved can go towards a cam upgrade!

I'm thinking of cutting up my SB hooker super comps, since the most I can probably get is $100 for them. I just can't see them being as high as they are!

Well since you were awesome enough to post on my thread ill post on this one to bring it back to life!

Did you simply cut the flange from the headers on the back side of the flange and follow it across? Also what size pipe is that?

thanks again for pointing me in the right direction happy Thanksgiving!

Ghost, you can do the same, just use some BBC headers for you first gen...

IIRC, other have already done it. The BBC header tube should match up well.

Maybe this is what I need to do for my 1st gen swap using big block headers.

I used a porta-band along the front side and lopped of the flange along with the 3/8" or so tubing that was inside the flange. These were 1 3/4" tubes.

The BBC's might work, but it won't be easy. They are on 4.84" bore centers as opposed to 4.4" for the LS motors. The tubes will need to be heated and warped into position.
