LS1 Into Fox with a different approach
Ls1's have been swapped into fox cars before but I'm taking a somewhat different approach. I'm going the Front Distributor drive setup and a carb. That way it still looks similar to a small block Ford and for the tranny I have fabbed up a way to use the existing clutch cable setup and mustang 5 spd. Some of you may be wondering why I'm doing it this way? #1 it will be using the majority of the Ford mountings for simplicity and also I can swap a 302 back in without major modifications in about 30-45 minutes. The goal is to have everything be like the factory except for the motor and bellhousing. Here are the pic of my progress so far.
Here is what I started with.

I found a deal on a new GM crate 5.3 that I couldn't pass up so I bought it, front drive distributor kit and a edelbrock carb intake. Then I got a Tremec TKO and Lakewood bellhousing for small block chevy and started modifying it. I swapped the pivot stud to the other side of the input shaft so now istead of a traditional push style fork I'm using the pull style from a Mustang so i can retain the Factory pedal assembly and don't have to worry about all the hydraulic stuff.

It's not as cheap as the MSD setup. about $450 for the cover kit. then you have to get a smaller diam. balancer than factory so it won't hit the distributor bulge, and you also have to run a different water pump or space your existing one out to clear the front cover bulge. I am using a meizere electric pump and am building aluminum spacers to put it where it needs to be. Future plans include tapping the intake for injector bungs so I can run this engine off the factory mustang harness too. trying to make it as plug and play as possible with the ford stuff.

Now I'll have all the die-hard Ford Guys after me.

I'm in the process of fabbing up an adaptor to mount ford valve covers on it "similar to the center bolt to perimiter bolt they have for the earlier chevy small block" I will also be using the Ford Distributor,Ford Racing Plug wires, and the factory mustang dual snorkel air cleaner to top it all off.
Now I'll have all the die-hard Ford Guys after me.

i was thinking of the same thing with the valve covers...
the tech guys at the track think my car has a modular motor which is fine by me

I did run into just a little snag that I'm currently creating a remedy for. The Fox cluthc fork just barely stuck out of the hole in the bellhousing and wasn't long enough for the cable to attach. I got a 94-04 fork to use instead that is longer so it sticks out far enough for the cable but is now hitting the floor pan. I'm not the type just to beat it in with a hammer so I'm looking at fabbing a recess panel for it or if I do cave it in I'll do all the hammer/dolly work to make it look like it belongs there. I can be a little O.C.D. with that type of stuff. We'll see how it goes though.
