What are the most common problems that causes this to quite working? This is a 2002 Z71 truck with just under 100k miles.

In my '02 Tahoe I have to put slight upward pressure on the column shifiter then hit the button. The button is end of the column shifter. Its like the shifter is slightly out of position or something. Try moving the shifter toward the park position, but not moving out of overdirve, while hitting the button.

I sell 3-4 shift lever w/switch's a week at a G.M. dealer. Just poor design.

So basically it is most likely a switch issue? I'll give the move the stick trick a try.
