Default 98 Vette LS1 into 66 Skylark first test fit

Well, the first test fit has gone well so far. The A/C compressor hit the K frame and had to be removed. The rear coil on the drivers side is very close to the brake booster. But, all in all, it went well. In the attached pics, it is bolted to the trans and sitting on the mounts. I still have to test fit the Edelbrock retro fit headers. Hope they slide right in!

I'm scared about the rear coil and brake booster on my 71. THey do make smaller brake boosters so if it becomes a problem you can always go that route.

Which oil pan are you running? I see BRP mounts in there I think.

Yes, I am running BRP mounts and the hummer oil pan. The oil pan does hang a little lower than the crossmember. Several companies offer smaller dual diaphragm brake boosters and I will probably go to one in the future. Right now, I just want to get it in and up and running. Good luck with your project!

You can find many smaller boosters, 6" one are about the smallest, you might also look into the Hydro booster that many are starting to use and are on the market.

Do you have any pics of how far the oil pan sits below the crossmember? I'm trying to figure out which pan to go with on my LS2 in my '66 Chevelle.

Thanks for the info on the boosters. I will look around for something after I get the car up and running.

Corey, I will try to remember to get pics of the oil pan tomorrow. That is when I plan to test fit the headers.

Thanks for all of everyone's help. This site rocks!

Pics of the oil pan and header fit. The oil pan hangs about 1.5 inches below the k member. The sump is about 4 inches behind the k member so a pan with a shorter (depth) longer (front to rear) sump would have worked.

Default Mounts welded in

Got the mounts welded to the frame today. When I went to lift the engine back out, the trans hit the tunnel before the engine mounts cleared the frame stands. Had to remove the engine mounts to get it out. Gonna be real fun to put back in.

Default 98 Vette LS1 into 66 Skylark Update

Haven't posted in a while but I have been making some progress. Engine has been in for test fit and out to clean up the engine compartment. Here are some pics of the progress to date.

looking great man! You are beating me by far. I'm still gathering all sorts of other parts like my hydroboost kit, disc brakes all around, diff, tubular control arms, etc. Do you think you could have moved the engine further forward and gotten the air to work as BRP advertises?

Thanks 6spdgto, but my car is very basic. It sounds like you are going the pro street or pro touring route with all the parts you are installing. It is possible that the engine could have come forward far enough to retain the A/C. I am using a 2004r for a trans and left it in the car with the original trans cross member. That dictated where the engine would have to go. It is pretty close to the fire wall. One thing I don't like is that the engine if very high in the front. That might be because I only used the BRP mounts and not their transmission cross member. Right now I want to get it up and running. I may go back later and see if I can level the engine out some. Send some pics of your car when you get a chance.
