I've got an 02 LQ9 that originally had an automatic trans Escalade.
I'm mating it to a manual trans, so I'll need a flywheel and clutch.
Are there any incompatible flywheels that will not work on an 02 LQ9?
Can I buy any LS1/2/3/7 flywheel/clutch combo? ie. F body, vette, GTO...
How about the starter, any incompatibility issues with the original auto LQ9 starter?

The 4.8 and LQ4 had manuals trans available on them. But they have a longer crank flange or had a spacer for they flywheel for the NV trans. S0 you might can use the flywheel and clutch for them. But, what trans? If if a LS T56 then the LS stuff will work.

I'm going with a Tremec TKO 5 speed or Richmond 6 speed.
My understanding is that only the early (00,01?) with iron heads had the longer crank.
I did a search and it seems the LS engines are not a problem but cant find a drfinite answer on the LQ4/9 motors.
I was planning on just getting an 02 F body flywheel/clutch.

The 00/01 had the longer solid crank the later ones had a removable spacer used for the manuals, that way GM didn't have to make two cranks for the same engine and all the 4.8s were like this as well.
If its just for a TKO 5 then sine you have an LQ9 it will have the standard LSx short crank and will work with the LS1 flywheel/clutch. No if they will work with the TKO I can't say.

Wasnt this spacer on the flexplate itsself? I just put in f body t56 and flywheel and i dont think the starter is lined up correctly.. sounds like its just spinning. I did not see any spacer in there to be removed. I was even warned about this.. so I am not sure what to do.

^^How does the end of the Crank look, does it stick out past the Rear Main Seal by about 1/4"?

I cant remember, its a 2003 lq motor. The flywheel is already bolted up andeverything.. I would assume its 1/4 inch away because the flywheel would need some space away from the engine right?

Not with these newer Engines. You have one of the later ones judging by the year, so your Crank Flange is the normal one.

To the OP..

As long as you have one of the Engines where the Crank doesn't have the Flange, which I think you don't have the Flange, all the LS stuff will bolt on to it without a problem.

I just bolted up an 02 LS1 flywheel to my 02 LQ9. The starter is on but I have not tried to crank it yet. I'll hook up a battery and see if it engages later today.

I am running an 02 lq4 block with a crank out of an 07 LS2 (58 tooth wheel). I am running a Tremec 5 speed. I mocked everything up out of the car and had no problem with fitment. My pilot shaft bushing is not quite all the way in the end of the crank, it sits out maybe 1/16th or even less, maybe as little as 1/32nd. This allowed my imput shaft to set all the way in the pilot shaft bushing. The only thing that pilot shaft bushing is really doing is keeping your imput shaft from "walking around" when your clutch is disengaged. Sorry I dont have any pics to show you.

starter was for an ls1 and an after market flywheel for an ls1. I used the old style bellhousing that i had bolted up to my old gen I 350. I had to take a little off the area of the bellhousing that the nose of the started goes to get it to fit good. the started fit in without having to grind on the bellhousing, but it was real tight fit. it drags afor a second or so after start, but from the research I have done its because I am still running the ford external selonoid and those dont work to well with the new perminant magnet starters. these are all new terms to me so if i sound like i know what i'm talking about its because i got the info from the other smart people on this site!! good luck.
