having major troubles getting engine and tranny to fit, tranny especially. looks like i would have to move the firewall back in order to make work. that is not an option. i have 68 camaro. with 98 LS1 6speed.

What is your exact problem. I put that combo in my 67 by myself without much issues. Getting the motor mount bolts through was about the toughest thing I had to do. Whose motor mounts are you using? Mine bring the engine forward 2 inches to clear the ac and alt. Giving alot of room at the firewall. Make sure you take the tranny crossmember out of the way. The tranny fit perfect in the tunnel with absolutely none of this

The key to the right fit is located the engine further forward. Im using home made adapter plates that bolt to the motor mounts, and then bolt to the crossmember about 4-5 inches further back. Ive got about 1" of clearence at the firewall.

67-69 are all the same under the hood. It all depends what motor mount adapters your using. I'm using the S&P mounts and it fits great. I have a good inch between the motor and the firewall. John

do any of you have pictures of your installation. so all i need is BRP motor mounts or SP motor mounts to make this work basicly. i dont need the complete subframe kit that BRP is trying to sell, do i? so basiclly what yall are saying is that with proper motor mounts there should really be no other fabrication needed to make this work. it should just drop right in nicely.

yep.. but ive heard that if you use the S&P mounts then you need to use thier pullies.. i have no idea why this would be true..
The BRP mounts seem well made and have an OEM look to them. plus they are cheaper than the S&P mounts.. no pics yet since I only have a pile of parts still..
The BRP subframe kit is more of a benefit if you want the modifications to run rack/pinion.. These are the same mounts used (and sold by YearOne) in the yearone 69 INOVATOR LS1 Camaro.

S&P's mounts put the engine in the stock location so that it would bolt up to the original transmission's bell housing, be it a TH 400, 350, 4 speed, etc. Hence, unless you box the frame, the accessories don't fit down low in the LS1 F-Body location requiring their expensive (but pretty) pullies. When I purchased my motor mounts, they were $85 each plus $15 to ship from BRP. S&P was only charging $90 for the pair! Have their prices changed?

With the S&P mounts you don't have to use their pulleys. The stock F-body setup works fine except for the AC compressor. My 68 is a convertible so I didn't worry about that. John

I sat the motor as far back as realistically possible, so I could have decent weight distribution. I read that in a magazine.
The motor mounts on my 67 where custom fabbed with a hammer, torch, and a mig.
Has anybody tried to fab up a pair of headers? I was thinking about doing this with a set of regular long tubes.
There is plenty of room to modify in the engine bay so it shouldn't be to hard.
