Starting a second LSX 3rd gen Camaro swap - '89 IROC-Z
#26
Nope, factory GM color (my convertible is mostly original paint) . WA 9591
Thanks man! Three ultra blue metallic cars, two of them original colors, of course my dad's used to be red.
Total third gens? If you count the '89 RS convertible my parents had right before I got my '91, we've had 11. 5 of them were bought in the last 12 months. My sister used to have a '91 Formula that i counted into the family tally.
In chronological order---
'89 RS convertible
my car (obviously still have):
'89 IROC-Z
'90 IROC-Z 305TPI/5spd car, should have never sold this one
'87 IROC-Z, was my wife's car, should have kept it
'91 Formula, sisters old car
'89 IROC-Z dad's LS1 swap
'91 RS parts car, sitting next to dad's IROC before we painted it
'89 RS parts car
'86 IROC-Z parts car:
'92 RS parts car
I think that about sums it up

I remember your build thread for your sisters, so I counted it too. Youre one of the dudes who got me to honestly respect 3rd gens, its even cooler to see them evolving like they are.

That's not even all of them. My dad bought a '98 Z28 last summer to use the drivetrain for his car, and he's also got a '93 Camaro that was wrecked in the front end, we used the '98 front end and put it on that '93 and now he's trying to sell that one.
Plus the only car he ever bought brand new was a metallic grey '85 Z28 TPI ttop car...and we've got a photo album of about 15 other fbodies that he had when he was a kid in high school/trade school. All of them were 1st and 2nd gens....it's amazing how much money he'd have right now if he kept some of those cars. He had a '69 Firebird convertible that I'm sure would be worth $30,000-40,000 today.

Today my dad picked up the rest of his interior parts from the upholstery shop. He had his headliner, sun visors, and rear speaker covers all re-covered in new material, as well as had his new inner window sweeps installed on the door panels, and had a new cushion cover installed on his driver seat that we pulled off another seat. He said the stuff looks awesome, we can't wait to get it installed. We're hoping to finish the rest of the things that need to be done to start it the first time this weekend, and then we'll put the interior back together. As it sits right now, the only things inside the car is pretty much the carpet and plastics from the rear seats back.
Here's his fuel system. It looks much nicer than mine because we put the filter in the stock location. I'm really thinking about changing mine while I have my car on stands changing the rear end this spring.
We got pretty much everything except the windshield wiper motor hooked up, and we're waiting on the intake couplers and tubing that he ordered to come in, along with a new PCV assembly from the dealership, because the person he bought the car from was running around with this:
It was snapped off completely...oil was everywhere on the block...

He got to start it for the very first time tonight, and he couldn't wipe the smile off his face! We are both so excited!
We got a little scared because the first try, the key would turn and it wouldn't even crank. I remembered that when he swapped dashes and steering columns that we somehow had an extra Pass-Key box. I decided to try changing out the box before doing anything else, so I did and it fired up right after that.
Obviously the car isn't FINISHED, but it will be driveable after a tune and after he has the exhaust made. Cosmetically, we just have to finish putting the front end and hood back on, and put the center console and seats in. We got the brand new speaker grills, sun visors, and headliner put in today and they look fantastic.

Wow that didn't take long at all!! The exhaust is done already (just took it there yesterday) and the car is back home now. My dad drove it home today, said the thing breaks the tires loose without any problems haha
The tuner will probably be coming over within the next few days or week to get it ironed out, so it's pretty much done now. Somethin' is squeeling pretty bad I think it might be the a/c compressor or a bad belt, not sure.

Here's her maiden voyage (you can hear the 4.10 10 bolt whine like a banshee around 2:20 ) ... and the rattle noise every once in a while is the passenger side mirror, gotta figure out what's causing that. Other than that, it's tuned and ready to tear up the street, the thing runs like a beast for a stock LS1 and headers.
