I went scavaging the salvage yard today for a engine harness for my lq4 swap. i seen this truck with a vortec, not sure of the engine size and year but it had drive by cable throttle. I wanna know if I can use this with my 04 van lq3 and 04 van ecm. I was under the impression all silverados' were drive by wire? Here is the style truck I seen in the yard.

The newer ones are drive by wire..all the old stuff is still cable TB's..that is an '04-up model there.

Pavetim Jan 27, 2010 04:23 PM

Ahh ok so when did they start using dbw? I thought 04 and up were newer ones. If i'm not mistaken they kept this body style till 07.

pdsq98gt Jan 27, 2010 05:02 PM

99-02 are cable. 03 and newer are dbw.

Pavetim Jan 27, 2010 06:01 PM

yeah thats what i thought but taht body style truck is a 03-07 so then how can it be dbc? I looked under the hood, it is dbc. I'll call tomorrow and get the year of the truck but it is the new body style of 03-07. And i got a ecm from a 05 silverado which is the same body style and this was from a dbw truck. So hmmm, wierd.

Was it a V6? Not sure if the V6's are DBW, but a V8 should be if it's a 2003 or newer.

Pavetim Jan 27, 2010 10:32 PM

didn't think of that, i'll find out tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure that body style is 2000, maybe 2001- 6, or 7

Pavetim Jan 28, 2010 01:35 PM

Yeah they said it was a 2001 with a 6.0L which is perfect i can use teh harness out of it.

In the pic? That's an 04-07, 08 started the new latest body style.

Pavetim Jan 28, 2010 01:55 PM

I thought they started that body style in 03 but from what i just found out is the 01 has like a half year body style change. If you look up parts on gmpartsdirect.com for an 01 it has silverado 1500 and silverado 1500 new style. It shows this on has the 411 ecm Baffled me to brotha, I was like wtf.

the_merv Jan 28, 2010 02:06 PM

1999 was the half n half year..I know cause I have one..:)

Pavetim Jan 28, 2010 04:28 PM

I don't know then It is that body style and i looked under the hood and it has a vortec with cable throttle. so I dunno.

lizeec Jan 28, 2010 06:27 PM

2003- to Early 2007?

I have a 2007 and it looks exactly like the one in the picture and I went outside and looked at it and it a 4.8 litre and it is definitely DBW, I know around Feb. or Mar. 2007 they switched to the new style, my 2007 is what they call a 2007 classic style and then you have the 2007 new style around, I know every time I get parts for it they always ask me is it the classic or new style, so 2007 can have both body styles.

Pavetim Jan 28, 2010 06:32 PM

I'm gonna go back lol and verify the vin number myself to check for year and engine. But if you go to gmpartsdirect.com and look for parts for a 2001 silverado it lists silverado and silverado new style.

ls1nova71 Jan 28, 2010 09:42 PM

!999 and 2007 are the two years that they made two body styles, with the older always being called "Classic". The picture you posted is a 2003 or newer, that's when they changed the front clip to that style, went to all DBW, and changed the instrument cluster and a few other things.

the_merv Jan 28, 2010 10:19 PM

Ya..that one came out in sep 03.

Pavetim Jan 29, 2010 04:58 PM

Ok I checked vin numbers and it is indeed a 2001 with a cable driven lq4. So not sure if the previous owner changed out the front end he did a damn good job at it. did the 2001's even come with a lq4? Oh it was a 2500HD

the_merv Jan 29, 2010 11:44 PM

Ya the LQ4 has been out since 1999.

actually you could still get the old body style into 2000. I've run into both body styles for the years 1999 and 2000.
