Default Wiring Issues.. 98 V6 A4 Firebird--->'02 LS1 A4

I have the complete PCM wiring harness from the 02, and both were automatics.

However, under the dash near the BCM, my wiring harness had 3 connectors, and the new one only has two, and less overall wires-- this frightens me a bit.

I also have the gas tank out of the 2002, which is plastic vs the metal 98 gas tank. Once again I am faced with the same problem, trying to match up 3 harnesses with more wires to 2 harnesses with less wires.

Neither motor had traction control on it- if that's an issue.

Opinions?

buy some dealer helmes manuals
they have all the connector #'s and end-views, the best wiring diagrams.
or try to deciper mitchell-on-demand wiring diagrams
all data is better, go to an auto-shop and ask to borrow some printouts.

You think it would be easier to switch the 02 LS1 over to a 98 LS1 wiring harness/pcm or rewire the 02.

Can you even put an 02 LS1 on a 98 harness?

Hmm

Change the console harness to an 01-02. The gas lines are hard wired to the console harness. Thats what i did when i did my 98v6 to 01 ls1 conversion. Everything works except my fuel gauge. I just havent worried about tracking that wire down yet. Shouldnt be hard. When you change the console harness keep your current bcm. It will match the 01 harness fine. You will have to remove you seats; to raise the carpet on the drivers side at least and remove the quarter and rear panels to plug your speakers, alarm, and tail lights up. If you can try and change the fuse and relay harness beside the abs modulator; then everything will work with no rewiring of acual harness.

I would change the fuse box harness- except it's for a Camaro, and mine is for a Firebird.

Where can I get a console harness?

Your best bet is to find some one thats parting an 01-02 out. I used a console harness from a trans am for my camaro. The only thing different is the fog light switch. I just extended it about two feet. You could use the fuse harness from a camaro just use your plugs from or lights(i think they are different). You may have to extend the fog light wires. Look on ebay for f-body junk yards and give them a call or email them. f-parts and edmerson are great sellers and have huge junk yards and ship very fast. Just type in ls1 for a search and you should run across one of them.

So if I leave the stock 98 V6 fuse box harness, and use an 02 console and 02 pcm harness, as well as the 02 fuel tank, fuel lines, and gauge cluster- will I be okay?

OneHardMaro, can you email me please at jaraya@austin.rr.com

I was also considering this:

What about converting the 2002 LS1 to a 98 LS1 wiring harness/PCM? Wouldn't that be a whole lot easier then trying to convert the 98 V6 body and fuse box harnesses to the 2002 LS1 PCM/Harness?

I know there are some few basic changes over the years from 98 LS1 and 2002 LS1- EGR, cam, tuning, fuel tank setup... but I can't think of much else.

My 2002 LS1 already has the TR "old man" cam which basically uses stock programming anyway- so I don't think the cam tuning would make any difference at all.

What do you guys think, would putting a 98 harness onto a 2002 motor be feasible?

You need a 98 motor/harness to get it to work well...98 is all by itself...98 to 98 would plug in at the dash etc...

But an 02 motor should work just like a 98 motor as long as it has a 98 harness and PCM wired up to it, there's no reason it wouldn't.

I already have the motor, wiring, everything. I'm not going to go buy a donor car.

Thanks for your help.
