Mustang T56 Guys..... What rear gears are you running? I'm getting ready to build my 8.8 and not sure what gears I want. I'm thinking 4.30s? What's everyone else run? Looking for something for a occasional strip car. |
You're high. If only an occasional strip car, 4.30 is no good. Final depends on tire diameter. If your tires are in the 27" + range, I'd say 3.90's max. If tires are in the 26.5 - range, I'd say a 4.10's max. Not a Mustang spec T56, but, in my Viper spec T56 & 26" tires, I use 3.90's & it's just about perfect from great 0-whatever acceleration through low highway RPM @ 65 + MPH.. |
I had 3:90's in a 440rwhp car with T56 and it was great. (not an 8.8" diff) Get some 3.73's or 4.10 gears from FRPP (Ford). They are the quietest. Richmond gears whine. |
Back up the bus, what is your engine combo? What are your intentions for the car? Is it near stock weight, what tires are you running? |
I have 4.10s and a 28 inch tall tire. I am stepping down to a 26 inch tire so i can actually use the 4.10s. |
4.8 with about 350 hp at the crank, for now. Little lighter then stock. LX w/ power windows. |
I've got 373s. Stick with them for now? |
Yea 3.73s should be perfectly fine. |
Tires are 335/30-18s |
I would stick with the 3.73s, the 4.8s like rpm, your car is fairly light. If you had a 6.0, I would say 3.55 or even 3.27 only because of the torque difference. Also, this is for a car that actually gets driven around and not a track star. Run the 3.73, you could change it later. |

373s it is then. Thanks guys. Ill post my results. |
I had a buddy put richmond 4.88's in his stang with his viper spec t-56 and it was the dumbest thing he's ever done. Zero traction and horrible gas mileage. Feels way faster than it really is too. |
I've got 3.73's in my 94GT with a 393W and a T56 in it. It runs about 1900 rpms @ 75 mph in 6th gear. |
