My build PICS, 1990 300zx LS1/T56
So figured id finally make my build thread. Let me start by stating that LS1 Excitement in Durham NC is doing the conversion and Paul Falcon (Owner) is simply the best. His shop specializes in LS1 swaps/conversions. Before I got into this project everyone under the sun in the 300z community said fitting the LS1 WITH a T56 could NOT be done without gutting the interior and cutting the firewall back. Paul made that happen. Most all the guys attempting it complicated the entire swap with other issues and cutting the firewall was their best solution. To me that seemed crazy. And if anyone could figure out a way to do it, LS1 Excitement could. Ive known Paul for 15 years and hes a great guy and stand up business person. So the project started. Fast forward, He did not have to cut the firewall but he did have to cut the K-member and lower it 1 inch and reweld with angle iron. Bc the T56 bellhousing is so big, the motor has to sit forward pretty far and for the TB to clear the hood, it had to be done. We still had to notch the brace under the hood but no biggie. Also, we removed the hood latch and will run the air intake straight over the radiator bc there was simply no room to do a 90* elbow. We are using AeroCatch hood flush mount hood pins. Second, the paint shop that did all my bodywork is Absolute Bodyworks in Raleigh, NC. Owner Robbie is a great guy and did phenominal on my car. Im beyond happy as to how clean smooth and deep the paint is. As I post this, my car is "back" at the paint shop having the engine pay painted bc the mock up, cutting, grinding and welding is all done. After this, the car goes back to LS1 Excitement for Paul to start bolting everything in place. Still need custom exhaust, drive shaft, but for the most part, its almost done. Enjoy the pics!!

FD RX7s are hard to find just a shell for. 300s are easy to find shells. But then RX7s are easier to do the swap into but more expensice. 300s are cheaper but harder to do the swap. So really its all about what you wanna spend or the time you have.

Not too shabby man. I put a LQ4 mated to a stock Z32 transmission in my 2+2 and its a blast!
Looking forward to updates on this one. It's cool to see how the shop you went to is dealing with the stuff. Have you decided on what accessory drive setup you are going with?
Here's a link to my build if it helps with anything:

Some updates, picked up the car from paint for the last time. Had the front end put back on now that all mock up was done, had the engine bay painted and the LS1/T56 goes in for the final time today.
Some notches on the underside of the hood we had to make to clear the TB.
