I have a 79 Ford bronco that I am wanting to put a lsx engine in. I will most likley use a 5.3 and 4l60e. The wireing and motor/trans mount fabing is no problem, but I'm stuck on what to do about a transfer case. I like the np205 I have now but I am not opposed to a 208 or 241 although I do want to shift it via a lever don't like electronic shift. I am not to familiar with what was availible from gm for t-cases. I will most likly buy an entire wrecked pickup, tahoe or suburban. what are the differances in 2wd and 4wd 4l60e trans since I can buy a 2wd pickup much cheaper and I am junking the axles. Oh and I need to stick with a drivers side drop to match my fron axle.

I believe the differences have to do with output shaft length (don't take that to the bank). 2wd's have a longer shaft that may/may not work a 4x4's x-fer case. I do not believe you can mate the 205 to the l60e due to spline counts and clocking rings not agreeing. I think you're best bet is to get a 4x4 truck to source off. Of course the newer stuff has electronic x-fer cases, however you could sell it off and swap for a np241, or 208. I believe they share the same clocking size and output match.

Run a 2 wheel drive trans, then a divorced ford case.

Then you can have the factory VSS for the pcm.

thats exactly what I am considering is a divorced 205

Thats what I would do. You can even do the hick way, and use the factory slip yoke with a conversion U-joint.

Mount the case to where the slipjoint is directly attached to the input then slid into the 4l60 output, thus eliminating the "intermediate shaft"
