What kind of computer/wiring system should I use for build? Finally have my build to the final step... the computer system and wiring harness!? Where to get it, what kind to get, how easy will install be, how hard is tuning on it... all questions I cannot answer. So let me tell you what I have and what it is in and I appreciate any and all opinions and expertise. I have a 1994 Pontiac Trans Am, originally had the LT1 with 4l60e automatic transmission and OBDI computer system. Removed and sold engine, trans, computer and harness, ac/heat accessories, abs, cruise, and all emissions stuff. Now I have installed a built engine consisting of: LS2 block Forged internals LSA heads LS3 intake LS1 T56 trans Comp cam 227/242 (blower cam for procharger eventually) If anymore info about the engine is needed please ask and ill answer to the best I can. I will not be running heat/ac, abs, cruise, and any emissions stuff. What do you guys think for a custom wiring harness and computer system to run this engine in my older car? Where do I get them? Thanks for looking, ill try and upload pics of build later to at least make the thread somewhat cool to look at. |
Is this a drive by cable or drive by wire setup? 58x LS2 or 24x LS2? Jon PSI |
Call that ^^^^^^^^^^^^guy.;) |
Drive by cable, 28x ls2. Thanks |
24x ls2 *** |
Run a standalone harness with the 411 PCM. You will locate your knock sensors on either side of the engine block either in the stock LS2 location (drill the stock hole to larger thread of the LS1 knock) or pick another hole that will allow you to thread the LS1 knock in place. Give us a call if you would like a quote. We have them in stock. Jon PSI |
Looking for all opinions and comments on this thread, anyone else seen something different or is running something different that works on something similar to my build. Thanks |
You can use 99-02 PCM for F-body car, would be easiest. I believe 02 and up use 411 PCM, but it will work for earlier models. Car architecture is closest to what you are trying to do, readily available, and easiest to install/modfy. You can get into some really complicated offerings using truck harnesses and the like.....that is, if you are modding your own.............98 is the oddball, as the only made them one year. If you aren't into modding your own, you can save a lot of trouble by purchasing a combo from one of the sponsors............ T, |
I am usin 03 DBW truck harness I modded with a $15 autozone fuseblock and 2 heavy duty relays. works great. I can give you schematics for just about any vehicle you want. |
If you are set on making your own harness, I would recommend ditching the LS2 DBW harness and starting with a DBC harness. Remember, the harness you currently have would have to be repinned to a 411 'style' PCM and then setup for DBC. You will save yourself time/money/aggravation by starting with something closer to what you want to do. Just my two cents, or you could go standalone aftermarket. :D Jon PSI |
You can't beat the PSI harness it is what I am using and it is a quality piece easy to install and much cleaner than hacking up a factory harness. |
Ditto on the psi harness, just got mine this week......looks good and was less than another one listed as a sponsor. Ive used them also.... Rick |

Thanks Alternatively, you can have a custom harness made to plug in to the car instead of trying to splice in a stand-alone harness and figure out your wiring in the '94. Contact the guys at Current Performance Wiring, they do custom stuff instead of just all stand-alone generic harnesses. |
Thanks for all the help guys. I don't have harness/pcm yet so now its time to find me a 411pcm and psi harness. Anyone happen to have an 411 pcm please pm. This is the last step of the build time to get runnin. |
