LS1 into Mercedes CLK? Anyone ever done it?
 

I really like the Mercedes CLK 320/430 coupes, but I hear they're maintenance nightmares. They're pretty reasonable with some mileage on them, and they look like a good starting point

Has anyone ever here tried swapping a LS1/Vortec 5.3/6.0 into one of em?

There shouldn't be any reason you can't, just lots of electronic fooling like on any swap.

Sounds like a pretty cool project. I love the body style, the swap would make the AMG guys green with envy.

I really like the looks of those little Benz but they are to small for me to drive comfortably....Hell I can fit in a Miata better!
Should make a beast if you do it.

I looked into putting in an LS motor in my uncles '73 450SL. If the newer Benz's are like the old ones... you will need to cut off the front end and do a custom or Mustang II style setup with new knuckles/spindles as the steering rack completely interferes with the engine. They put them in the most stupid place possible.

Would it work with a GTO front sump oil pan?

I'm 6'7 and I fit in my 01 CLK430 just fine :nod:
