side note. this is pretty much the look im goin for with a couple little differences mine prolly wont have that hood (got a different idea in mind) sleepy eye headlights with custom headlights and possibly a LED lightbar in the lower grille http://www.3dtuning.com/en-US/mike87...1990/KSToHp2b9 https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...08dce0a52f.jpg |
Not sure if you mentioned it but I would get an LS2 timing chain setup or something aftermarket. Since it's apart and not very expensive I would upgrade the oil pump. |
Haven't said anything about a timing chain. Thought about it but didn't know which one. I did say that I was going to possibly port this oil pump but looking at prices of them I might just but one like a Melling or whatever. |
dropped my headers off at the sandblasters to get them cleaned up. took off my oil pump and cut down the truck pickup tube so i can make one if these: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...2983696597.jpg if it doesnt rain this week i might place the heads back on, sit the motor in the bay and probably start fabbing up my motor mounts. if my headers get back i might cut them apart and try to get some test fitting done on them. although i need to buy some flanges. |
soo made this thing real quick. think it should work. also added a washer to the spring inside the oil pump. need to pull it apart and port it. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...1fb7448e3b.jpg and got my headers back from the sand blasters. now i gotta cut them up and fit them in. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...72f85f516a.jpg |
Why would you put that work into a used pump? I get M295s from advance and shim them about a mm then do mild porting. Never had any issue with any of the dozen I've done |
just testing things. never really ported things. im probably not goin to use it. ive never taken one of these apart so i figured id try with this one since it doesnt really matter. |
ok so today i primered the headers so they wont rust over again. primered a couple engine pieces i took off. scrubbed down the block a bit (need to take it to my work to clean off the block surface). cut out the stock radiator mounts and washed my lexus. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...08b3b7d9af.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...68ea280b4a.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...5636779cd1.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...1af06c1756.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...5d6550bfe9.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...6069b87ff5.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...94f36127ff.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...a57df0f81d.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...9151f6a6da.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...fdec2d1459.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...d78e1194c4.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...f0938f15f9.jpg |
Thought you were cutting up the headers |
Not until I buy some flanges for them. Then I'll put stuff sorta together and cut them up. |
today i took some scotch brite to the heads and cleaned them up some more. got all the old gasket material taken care of. takin the block to work tomorrow to clean those surfaces next. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...b8770b61e0.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...98c3ce8032.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...c744c2d406.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...c4f449f1fe.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...2a2436feee.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...c5c378b20c.jpg |

Whos mounting kit are you using? |
my own. im building them. inda a copy of the Hinson ones i believe. |
so between the rain and birthday/ christmas parties i havet really got to fit the motor. deicded to throw it in real quick, line it up and mark it off so i can weld up the mounts. looks like i need to space them up about 1/2" though. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...f7691b2b50.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...5e3d900297.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...eae6942021.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...c52be93755.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...6a76d3291c.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...12a8b51905.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...666cc86e9c.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...a215c22c3b.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...1b33906c9f.jpg |
Isn't that a little tight with a pan installed? Andrew |
That's what I was thinking. Also are you gonna weld the stands to the subframe as a contingency? Can't imagine one bolt is sufficient. Sure it may work but I would at least add one more bolt or weld them in |
Like I said I gotta raise the mounts up a 1/2" and finish making the mounts. there will be another tab on the back of the mount. |
so i decided to raise them up 1" instead of only 1/2" to get extra clearance from the pan. got some tabs i need to weld on and to the back so i have to bolts holding them in on each side. kinda hard measuring and eyeballing stuff at home and then trying to remember what to do when i get back to work. lol also picked up a couple things from my buddy. ill be using the c4 driveshaft and gto frc's. was thinking about trying to make the lid work. also got a f-body turbo kit but dont think im goinf to use it. might just put it up for sale or trade for something. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...6eb54edb6f.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...d9700f3ff7.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...44959d4555.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...17daac8064.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...4e9d4faaa0.jpg |
finally finished my motor mounts. they are not fully bolted in in the pic but you see how theyll bolt together. might cut the corners off for that extra header clearance. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...0d0b0802f6.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...7a865ba816.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...b25d0f85bc.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...80687b4717.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...c83dc63f85.jpg |
