Andy's 66 Caprice LS Conversion

I met Andy at the Elkhorn Swap meet a year ago and we were talking about the LS swap into the 66 Impala Convert.....We got hooked up again in early summer this year and were talking about the Ackermann issues these "B" body cars have........Ended up Andy had the GM Service Bulletin from 1966 resolving these issues .........Anyhow......Here we go again........LOL......
Staring point is a pretty nice rust free Caprice.........Putting in a LS3 480 HP/4L70E GM connect and cruise set-up just like we put in Gary and Keith's cars.....

The trans tunnel is tight in these cars and getting the cooling lines out to the radiator is simplified by getting rid of the factory fittings and going aftermarket with trans rated rubber hose......

The next issue is the Holley 302-1 pan contacts the front cross member.......I made up some engine mount adaptor plates to raise the engine a 1/2" to resolve that issue...............

Clean Caprice. Looks like he did all the hard stuff like A/C already.

2 questions for you.

1. How do you guys all like the Classic Auto Air?

2. Are you making money from these swaps? No need for details I'm just curious if your just nuts and do them for free or if its a nice supplement.

TomM Oct 4, 2016 05:38 AM

Are you done yet....LOL...

The leg is now getting back to normal and things are starting to move again.......Didn't say anything yesterday, but if you look at the picture below, you will see the front Chinese header bolt is missing......I was using a air ratchet to draw them in and the bolt as it was running down just snapped off.........Talk about getting pissed........That was a signal to go take a Nap.......It was in an accessible position, but getting the drill started in the center of the bolt to drill it out in an area that wasn't the best to see what you were doing.........went to the shop today and thought it thru....Made a bushing to go into the header flange with the metric tap drill size in it.......put it in and it centered the drill perfectly.....drilled thru the bolt and retapped the hole.......problem solved......

Now that my Blood Pressure was down to normal, I went on and finished getting the Front Drive set-up installed........Headers installed on both sides and got the frame trans cross member mounts all welded in.......Time for a nap again (a good one this time)

Ken,

Why are you not using the stock flanged bolts for the headers?
