85 c10 stepside

I'm starting on my c10 ls swap and was going to see if anyone has used the speed engineering swap headers and what mounts ,and how well they fit.Im going to keep motor all stock except cam looking at Texas speed torquer v2,v4,or maybe tusmie v2 with stall and 411 gear.any suggestions or hints would be awesome I've just now tore motor down and got the old motor out of c10.Still got to fig out fuel pump and best way to mount gas pedal

I think Holley makes a replacement tank with intank fuel pump for that application.

boostedstang 01-03-2019 11:07 AM

I'll check out the holley tank.I thought I seen some where that you could use the sending unit off a 87 silverado not sure if the pump would work or not.The 87 was fuel inj not sure if tank on my 85 would be same as a 87 pretty sure the sending unit and pump would fit in my tank.I thought about a corvette pump and filter like I used on my 56 swap but think it would be better in tank and quiter.

jeffs55chevy 01-03-2019 12:34 PM

the 87 sending unit should fit your tank but you would need a fuel pump from a 97 chevy k1500. the plug is most likely different but some aftermarket pumps come with there own harness. the 87 fuel pump would be for a tbi which i believe is about 20 psi. the 97 fuel pump would be the correct pressure for the ls. im not sure if the whole sending unit from a 97 would fit your tank.

What are most of you using for motor mounts or are you making your on.And can I keep my air conditioning.I'll check into the 97 fuel pump thanks

I know there are several square body swaps on this forum but you might also look here for info

Here's a bunch of info on the Speed Engineering headers

Thanks jweb I'll check it out.

i have lsx innovation motor mount plates between my block and my stock 3 bolt motor mounts in my chevelle. my 70 c10 is getting the same mount plates and 73-87 mounts and stands.

boostedstang 01-03-2019 03:02 PM

Thanks again I was looking at the motor mounts that speed engineering has Im going to try to call and see if there headers were built to fit them or something different

truckdoug 01-03-2019 05:00 PM

is that the original paint?

boostedstang 01-03-2019 05:32 PM

It looks to be all but front clip looks like it may have been painted years ago.It was factory c10 stepside 305,4 speed in floor, add on from factory air.I'm just trying to make a good shop truck for now.I may put slick paint on it before it's over though.

Cam wise. I like the tsp V2 cam. Mine is ground on 110 lsa (lots of over lap). Good mid range / serious lope sounds like it means business. Yet not destructive on valve train parts. Just my opinion.....

boostedstang 01-03-2019 06:39 PM

I really like the way my last torquer v2 performed it was on a 112 lsa.I was just wanting little more aggressive sounding. That's why i was looking atvthe v4.I didn't really think about getting it with a Def lsa.Do you have any video clips of it?

emfh 01-03-2019 06:55 PM

If you buy a new tank for an 87 it will have baffles in it to keep the fuel around the pump when the tank is low and they are cheap. I put the summit stg 2 drop in cam in my 5.3 swap. I am just installing the harness and wiring now so i can not say how it runs yet.

NorCalAnthony 01-05-2019 01:32 AM

As mentioned above, the cheapest easiest route for the fuel tank is to get a tank and sending unit from an 87 with TBI. You can use your existing tank but the TBI version has the baffling in the bottom that keeps the pump from starving when the tank gets low and starts sloshing fuel around. You'll just need to swap out the pump for an AC Delco EP381, Walbro 255, or something similar to get the higher pressure. Like also mentioned above you can use a Corvette filter with the built in fuel pressure regulator or any number of other options I'm using one of the Holley fuel filter/regulator combos on mine because it'll handle more power and I wanted room to grow in the future.

For the gas pedal, there's a bunch of options, just depends on what year you're swapping in. For Gen III's most guys will just cut and weld the pedal to get the correct angle but you can also look in to using a pedal from a 90's diesel. It'll bolt right up to the floor board in a square body and will work with the LS computer and TAC module after you swap a couple pins in the plug. If you're using a Gen IV there's a guy on 67-72chevytrucks that makes brackets that let's you bolt your pedal in without having to modify anything.

For the motor mounts most guys just use adjustable Dirty Dingo adapters, but their quality seems to be hit or miss if you read up on them. There are other company's out there like DIY4X, Off Road Design, Totally Naked Automotive, and BRP Hotrods that make better built versions. Heck since you're 2WD, BRP and Holley both make complete swap kits with mounts, crossmember, headers, and oil pan of you want/need it.

Thanks for all the info norcal. And tipsy it was like that when I bought it looks like someone put them on it at some point.Thought about trying to get them off but I think they been on it so long you could probably still see where they was.
