Default Painless Harness, ran tach wire to Autometer Tach, very far off

I just hooked up the "TACH" wire from my painless wiring harness to the autometer tach i have. The tach reads about 800 at idle, but when i rev the motor up it seems really far off. like 3000 rpm sounds like 5000-6000 rpm....

I'm not sure where they get tach signal with the painless harness, but i know on the stock pcm and harness you have to set the tach to a 4 cylinder to be correct due to the distributorless ignition or the way the pcm sends out the signal on that wire.
