My husband got his '88 Camaro running the other day. He has done all the work himself in our garage at home. Its a 2002 LS6 Engine w/4L60E trans. Car should be pretty light weight. We will find that out later. Just got the exhaust put on today so its about ready to get back on the road. Clint did an awesome job on this car. Not too bad for a budget build-up :D

Here's the vid of the first start up: http://www.xs-fx.com/pain/ls1swapstartup.wmv
Please right click and SAVE to your computer for viewing.

And here are some pictures of the progress too.

Got to make a couple of(1/8th mile) runs in the conversion over the weekend. Keep in mind it still has stock manifolds, stock catalytic converters and stock cat-back. Also it has 16x8" wheels all the way around.

1st pass
1.90 - 60'
8.17 - 1/8th
87.87mph

2nd pass (bad wheel hop)
1.99 - 60'
8.29 - 1/8th
87.72mph

3rd pass (75 shot eased it off the line so no wheel hop issues)
1.98 - 60'
7.79 - 1/8th
94.14mph

Should be interesting to see how it does with a little more work and spraying it out of the hole with a bigger shot.

Everything is stock and untuned. Should be able to see PCM in one of the pictures, passenger side.

You just used the 02 harness and reworkd it and pluged it in?????????ß

STock exhaust manifolds and homemade Y-pipe or the hack a hooker header solution!???

92CamaroReallySlow Mar 21, 2005 10:48 PM

congrats...looks a lot like my install....i wish the first time i started it up I could do all that fun stuff...but no i only could let it run for like 5 seconds. Definatly congrats...looks like it will be a cool ride. How long did it take you from start to start up? If I remember right didnt you just get the motor like a month ago? If so nice time line...lol...good luck with getting it perfect...

Chris

*By the way, Ive been askin a few people around here, but how did you hook up the shift linkage??

CamaroCain Mar 22, 2005 12:43 AM

Stu Cool: thanks, Definately a great day when they start and run on the first try, I am extremely excited

LS1 Hybrid Magna: ses lamp=dtcs i have not deleted from PCM,
I have stock manifolds and a custom y-pipe, stock k-member with LS1 adapter mounts for engine and trans, stock pcm and stock wiring harness that i rewired for the thirdgen(it pays to be a GM electrical technician)

92Camaro: I just received the motor aprox 1 month ago, i already had most of the body harness modified and ready, I did run into quite a few engine problems(oil pan cracked, exhaust bolt broken in head, and a few others) that set me back about 2 weeks waiting on machine shop and getting oil pan installed while on engine stand. It shouldnt have taken quite that long since the car was ready by the time the engine showed up. As far as the shift linkage goes, the camaro was originally a 5-speed car so i filled the shifter hole, mounted the auto shifter and drilled the hole for the shift linkage in the only spot that it would reach. Luckily my measurements were correct and it all hooked up great. It could be a little bit of an issue if the car was auto to begin with and trying to use pre-existing holes for the linkage.

thanks for all the comments.

Clint

Congrats guys! :)

Awesome, congrats on the start up. Our interiors look alot alike, my tach is in the same spot, and I have a 5 speed shifter boot covering my auto shifter as well. :)

Some time or another we are going to have to meet up somewhere, at a show or something. Maybe at the Heatwave this year, good idea or no?

Happy LS6ing.

CamaroCain Mar 24, 2005 11:09 AM

Yeah i have always hated huge tachs mounted on top of dashes or mounted where you can see it from 50 yards out. I wanted it to look like it kind of belonged there. I love the way the shifter looks and it fits perfect.

Where is the Heatwave happening at??? maybe i'll have to check into it.

badjuju342 Mar 24, 2005 01:43 PM

Someday, I'll get there with my swap completed...............https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/sm...ech/gr_sad.gif

CamaroCain Mar 24, 2005 01:52 PM

oh you will get there and believe me it is worth it!

I know how it is though, i went through spells when i would spend hours each day working on it and i would go through spells where i wouldn't want to work on it for days and be depressed about it. Keep working at it, it will come together

I can attest to that. I remember having to change the oil pan out and trying to do it with the motor still in the car, and then saying, "I'm glad thats done, now whats next?". :) You'll get there, and when you do, you will think every bit of pain and suffering was worth it.

The Texas Heatwave, happens every summer in Austin. I dont know the exact date for this year, but I am for sure going to check it out this year. Every year I say that and dont go, but this ones different. I keep hearing stories of how much of a blast it was and that I missed out, but not this time. It's basicaly a huge car show that takes place over a few days. I'll try to find some specifics about it.

Thanks for the pep talk , I needed that.https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies2/thumb.gif

Kewl another one!! I love these hybrids more than the new vettes! :burn: I think we need to start a count just to see how many are out and what they are running.

CamaroCain Mar 24, 2005 05:15 PM

when money allows I will probably end up doing one too someday.

Sweet

92CamaroReallySlow Mar 24, 2005 09:03 PM

Is it just me or does it seem like theres always a backround issue that needs to be solved. It looks like theres not much to do left but then you look at the overall picture and realize that you have so many more problems that need to be solved. I get a new problem everyday.

great job
