I have a HORSEPOWER ? I am Building a 374 ci ls1 for my mustang and i would like a guess from someone on what my HP might be.
374 ci
10.8to1
stock ls1 heads slight port job and polished the exhaust
918's
GM asa cam 525/525 110lsp
carb setup
eletric w/p

Haha, I need a better guess than that. :jest:

Do you have a good guess? :bang:

30th TA 0219 Jun 16, 2005 06:36 PM

how is 374 achieved?

crainholio Jun 16, 2005 08:45 PM

Since you won't go away, here are a couple of things:

You didn't specify carb size...750cfm, 800cfm, ??

How did you calculate your compression ratio? Running LS1 heads and stock chamber volume w/ the kind of displacement you're specifying, I'm guessing you're well into the 11.x:1 range and detonation is going to be a problem. Jack the heads up w/ fat gaskets and detonation is going to be a BIG problem.

The carb I will be running is a 650 ultra hp
The combustion chamber of my heads are 67.8cc
The 374ci kit is a 3.905 bore, 3.900 crank, and 6.125 rods eagle 4340 crank and rods and je pistons. with a 66cc head the combo is supposed to be 11.0 to 1 so with me being 67.8cc i will be around 10.8 to 1 with a .041 head gasket. My combustion chambers are polished and i shouldn't have a problem considering i am going to mix 110 and 93.

that carb sounds a little undersized for that motor.

closest power estimate you're going to get is by searching the whole board, for someone close to your combo.

asking someone online how much HP your engine is going to make is like asking a bunch of chefs how high the bread will rise.... they can guess a reasonable range, but if you made it wrong, its not going to be close, and they can never be very accurate anyway.

just build it... if you make the power you're after, be happy, if you dont, then figure out why.

honestly, that sounds like a backwards build to me.

650 carb is something id put on a street car.
if this was a street car, id keep the EFI... (hell if it was a race car, id do it too.. as long as its within the class... why give up accurate fuel control?)

the ASA cam sucks for power... it has a nice choppy idle, thats about it...

the fuel thing sounds really backwards... this thing is going to suck as a race motor (or atleast not be anywhere near its potential with the current mismatch of parts), so why are you giving up pump gas usage? or is this a "race car" with no class rules?

i donno... if this was a race motor, id say swap the cam and carb and you'd be ok.... if this is a street motor, you're kinda screwed on the compression, and either mix it as you're saying, or pull a good bit of timing out...and still swap the cam.. lol

The only reason i was going with the 650 is that if u go through and do the formula it calls for about 610 cfm. The cam was recommended to me to use. I dunno much about it and haven't heard anything about it i don't want to put the motor together and have to worry about p/v clearence and its not alot of lift so i figured i would try it. The car is going to be a street and race car but i don't want to go through all the hassle and money that is involved with fuel inj. I do have all the fuel inj. that came off my motor but it just seems like alot of money by the time i get a computer and either get a new harness or modify the stock one that i have. and then getting someone to tune it and paying for that. And with the carb i can change cams or whatever and tune the carb myself. Do u have any suggestions on cams that might suit me better than the asa?
Thanks

the problem with the "formulas" is they dont correlate with the real world all the time. the engine will run great and feel crisp with the 650 on there.... but there's more power to be made with the 750 with almost no loss in throttle response.. going larger then that, you get diminishing returns and a lot more effect on throttle response..

that cam SOUNDS awesome... real nice idle... but it doesn't make squat for power... theres around 50 popular cams you could also chose from without any worries about P/V clearance, valve seal clearance, or need stiffer springs then the 918s... do a search on this forum, and you'll find LOTS of info. im not sure how much street how much race you want... if you tell me how you plan to use the car, and how streetable you consider streetable to be, i could suggest a couple, but id HIGHLY recommend that you read up on the internal mods board about peoples results and cam choices.

I am going to do a pretty good amount of street driving and race probably once a week. Ihave always had cars and trucks with alot of cam and compression on the street so my def. of streetable is probably alittle diff than yours. Another guy recommended the LG G5X2. I don't know anything about it.

Yeap, Change cam.
That cam is too small for those cubes. Will make a nice Tow Stang though. Put something like an LG G5X2.

single plane manifold need rpms to shine. You'll run out of steam by the time you reach it's power range.

WTF?? Why would you run a carb'd LS1, if it wan't a crazy ALL out set-up? If you plan on driving it at all EFI is the only way to go. That's what makes this the greatest pushrod engine series EVER...DRIVABILITY!
Good luck though

89lx-ls1 Jun 17, 2005 06:57 PM

i just want something different and in the long run it will save me money. And if i want to cange something like cam i don't have to take it and get it tuned some where.

Good luck though

my car already had a carbed small block, so it was a better route for me to stay that way.
didnt have to change fuel lines, or pumps.... wiring etc...
tho i do see your point.

i havent seen much out of the asa cam. dont think ive ever seens posts of anyone dyno'n it.
good luck.

What Kind Of Power Are You Making With The Carb And What Cam Did You Use
?

futral cam
car did 380hp 418tq on a dynojet, hot off the interstate.
this is pushing threw a 4400 stall and a 9", and i was on mickey thompsons.
with cool down and some dyno tricks, i could have gotten more, but this is a good comparison for what im making on the street when someone rolls up at the redlight.

red90cobra Jun 24, 2005 12:27 AM

i wouldn't run that cam. As far as drivability I'm sure it can be done but, but with that low of a lsa why wouldn't you just get something else? the g5x2 will work great!!! I've had that cam before. you'll love it. guys that have had the t rex drive on the street everyday. get something else as far as cam and you will definitly make alot more power.
