conversion Q's

Hello!
I am undergoing the swap and have a few questions. First I will kind of outline what my final project will hopefully be. I am planning on an LS-1 / T-56 swap into an older Chev. I am planning on using the Painless LS-1 harness and 18 circuit box. Along with the LS-1 I am planning a ProCharger supercharger running at about 6-7psi. First off I would like to know if anyone has done a swap and supercharged it and also if there were any other ECU work that needed to be done to get the motor right. I am using a 98 LSI and T-56 that is cable throttle. I am new to the swapping game and originally planned a twin tubo charged Nothstar but the electronics were beyond my capabilities. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again
Tony.....

you'll have no problems with the computer or wiring harness. The computer will work fine as long as you take care of the VATS. Its plug and play. I bought a harness from Street Performance in Arkansas and they labeled every connector it took 5 minutes to plug in. The main thing is gonna be putting the motor in the car, the rest is just plugging it in...

You might want to check with one of our sponsors, Tom Izzo at Speed Inc. He is doing a LS1 conversion on a 69 Camaro, and I think he can hook you up on motor mounts and issues. PLUS, Tom also has a 1961 Impala and he is very familiar with those cars too.

I think that the motor mounts and crossmember are the big issues.

With that blower, You will a good sized intank fuel pump.

Thanx for joining the board.

Ok im gonna have a stupid attack again...... if you could breifly explain VATS to me. I may know what you are talking about I am needing to familiarize myself with the abreviations though.

Thanks for all of your help guys and especially to Pro Stock John for directing me to this board.

Re: conversion Q's

VATS = Vehicle Anti Theft System.
On the Camaro it's the resistor chip in the key that prevents the starter relay from closing and also stops the PCM from generating fuel injector pulses. This is overcome on retrofits by either using a VATS module to generate the required signal to the PCM so it "thinks" the correct ket is being used, or by simply programming it out of the PCM. The Corvette and LS1 variant trucks do it a different way so the best alternative if using a PCM from one of these is the PCM reprogramming route.
Hope that helps.

John...... I know exactly what you are talking about although I did think that on the 98 and up they didnt use the VATS system. Being that I am planning a Pro Charger, the ECU is scheduled for "overhauling" anyway. Thanks for the heads up.
