ls1 in s2000?

I've had my s2000 for a while now and was wondering what options i had in gaining power (mostly torque since its almost not even existant lol). I just stumbled onto this site and found that ls1 swaps have been done in many different cars and the one that surprised me the most was the v8 miata :hail: I was wondering if this swap is possible in an s2000? any imput would be nice
thanks

Theres tons of room under the hood of a s2000. I say go for it. Mock the engine up in there to get the factory weight distrubtion(or better) and it should be one hell of a beast!

if ur gonna do it u may as well do a stroker and make it insanely fast. 383 in an s2000...destroy anyone?

It can be done. Major modification will be the K-frame. Might even be able to use a modified Miata kit for the install. Re-enforcing the body & a proper suspension are a must. Unless you are willing to modify the rear wheel wells, it won't be a drag car (can't fit wide enough tires for the launch). No car is unbeatable & now with GM's LS7, the advantage of having a V8 Miata or a V8 S2000 has been all but eliminated.
Also will tell you that 400-450 RWHP & 450 #-ft of RW torque is about the limit for usable power in a Miata or S2000. Believe me, I speak from experience. Often wonder what guys in F-bodys & Corvettes do with 900 HP on the street. The power craze has almost gotten out of hand.

Bottom line is build it & you'll love it. For sure you won't lose many races. Good-luck & let us know if ya go for it.

This isn't an LS engine, but I tried to talk my freind into dropping this into his S2000.

It's 2 Hayabusa engines made into a V8

http://www.powertecengineering.com/v8_index.php

383 HP and 207 ft. lbs of torque.

10,500 RPM redline

Fuzzylogic 03-05-2006 03:02 AM

That's cool. The S2000 idea because I'd been thinking it myself, and that Powertec Hayabusu V8 is pretty sick as well.

Azar 03-05-2006 03:28 AM

Yeah....Hayabusa....that thing is sick.

That's a cool idea. Although, the 207 ft-lbs won't come close to the feel of an LS1. Aftermarket heads & a moderate cam will yield 400/400 + in an LS1 engine (stock will give ya 350 #-ft w/headers). Good torque is needed to move all that front end weight or else she feels like it takes forever to gain speed from a stop. Gotta have the torque.

You could also get around 325/225 + with a good turbo kit without adding front end weight.

i looked around and i couldn't find how much the engine would cost for that hayabusa engine but having 10k rpm is wicked though...
i did some research and found that the f20c engine is mounted in the bay longitudinally.
does the ls1 engine mount up the same way?

Can't help on this end but there's a guy with a '74 MGB GT on a Mercedes list that wants to modernize his power and an S2000 engine was suggested. If you decide that you're interested in doing a swap, I might be able to help get rid of your S2000 engine and tranny.

Good Luck!

That busa hybrid seems almost inefficient considering that you can get 550hp out of a built and turbo'd single hayabusa motor.

I'm running a twin turbo ls1 w/750rwhp on the street and can't get enough. Right now I'm doing weight reduction to attempt 3000lbs and do a cam and methanol for 900rwhp on the street. Should be pretty wicked!

I say go for the ls1/s2000 swap.

Urban Legend 03-05-2006 05:40 PM

Why not forge your current engine and run 15+ pounds of boost (turbo/supercharger)? That will net you 500+ rwhp w/o the hassle of changing engines etc.

Save yourself the engine swap troubles and get a hold of these guys:

They do any and all Honda stuff. I like the turbo Insight.

This video from Streetfire just popped up on our local message board today...is this the car in DFW? Any other details on the car?

video is fake. That's Pac-Man's s2000 with some v8 sound layed over it.

I say go for the LS-2000. I plan to do the same in a couple years when I can find an S2000 for hella cheap

unless they changed things from when the first one was made a couple years ago, thats two stock 'busa motors with a custom crankshaft. I'd say thats pretty good
