So what's the scoop on Hooker headers?

Hey guys - I'm still waiting to see what people's results were on Hooker headers (part # 2288-1KHR) with S&P mounts on a first-gen Camaro...anyone know how/if they fit?

If they fit, there's no doubt I'm getting them for my '69 with an LS1 an S&P motor mounts!

Hooker headers

I ordered mine as soon as i got back from Sema were they had some on display. They came in at the end on January and i just installed them this weekend in my 1968 Camaro. They fit excellent i think. i have not found any problems yet. They come with collector, gaskets, bolts and O2 extension harness. Here are some pics.... if you need a speical shot just let me know.

68RED, oh please tell me about the A/C bracket you have, I need to know, and a front shot from the motor, and the headers look great!

"what about a ground reference shot?"

I will get one for tomorrow. They hang about 1/2" below the subframe and just barely clear the cross member.

The a/c bracket is a Street & Performance setup. Here is a pic from the front.

I added your pics to the 1st gen sticky at the top of this forum. Hope you don't mind. :)

The headers look really good, better than I thought they would. Which motor mount adapters did you use?

68redcamaro Mar 19, 2006 11:10 PM

Hey Joseph
I used the Hooker engine plates. They are almost the same as the Street & Performance ones.

Steve68 Mar 20, 2006 06:16 AM

Thanks for the pics, it looks better than I thought,

I wonder what the difference between the Hooker and the ATS plates is

1fine69 Mar 20, 2006 01:12 PM

Thanks for the pics - it looks great! I already have my motor installed with S&P motor mounts, so I'm really curious as to whether or not those headers will clear the drivers side with the original steering box?

Thanks again!

Hey, could you please measure the distance from back of heads to firewall, so I can compare to my measurement for S&P to determine whether or not they're compatible? I'd appreciate it.. and thanks for posting pics.

Here is a picture of the S&P AC mount only for use with stock F-body accessory mounts. The bracket, idlers and belt were 391 bones for the polished version shipped. Chrome was more. Pretty steep but the best solution I could find after extensive research. I will use my existing Sanderson compressor, just waiting to change the clutch to a serpentine version. I got the clutch for $110 from March performance. They also have brackets, but would not promise they would work with the stock set up.

The clearence between the right head and the firewall is 3/8".... pretty tight but that is how i wanted it. I am worried if i can get the top bolts in the bellhousing of my 4L60E.
Here are some ground clearence shots..... hope you can see it..... it is dark under there.

My energy suspension mounts work well, they wont fit anywhere near close if you use the preload plates. I have to bolt one side up, then push the engine towards it, lift slightly, and it goes in perfectly... I got my mounts from Autozone..

Steel S&P style, email me the pic at master__olly@hotmail.com, i'll post it for ya..

My engine sits approx 3" from my firewall, barely clearing the heater hoses.. I dont see how those hooker mounts would work with heater unless you had the big-block heater core that sticks out more toward the fender..

It appears your first header tube is paralell with the center frame stand bolt, so it looks like hooker puts the engine between 1-2" farther back than S&P... I'm going to try to find some better refrences to measure off of..

i'll bust out the tape measure tomorrow..
