Block engine number location

Hi All,

I'm just sorting out my paperwork for my engine transplant and I need the engine number...and I can't find it :emb: . Where abouts on the block is the little bugger, or does it not have one?

Not a problem if there isn't one as I'll just stamp one on to suit.

Thanks

Jim

it's on the back, behind the passenger side head, where the transmission bellhousing bolts up to. Etched numbers.

Below is a picture of a f-body LS1/ls6 block with the number location. This is actually a LS6 block. The number is hard to see on a LS1 block. This number will match the last 9 digits of the VIN#.

Sorry to open up a VERY old thread, but I have a question. I have a LS2 from a 2006 GTO. It has every number in the photo EXCEPT for the VIN derivative. The factory mill marks are still present, so I know the number hasn't been removed. Can you help me understand what I have? Thanks,
Doug

Looks like the Aussies didn't do VIN's on the block....

I was wondering if that was it. I called my local GM dealer with the serial number from the right deck surface in front of the head. He said that a 6.0 from a 2006 GTO should begin with "6MC". Mine begins with "VF0" OR "UF0". What do you make of that? I had him check the donor car VIN to see if the engine had been replaced. He found no record of it.

Strange block casting number…

I’m looking at purchasing a take out LS6 long block from an 05 CTS-V, but it has a strange casting number on it I could find nothing about online.

The casting number is in the usual place on the drivers side rear of the block, and is # 650152005.

Can anyone confirm this is an LS6 block? Thanks!
JP

Did anyone find out (from 2018) what the UF0 prefix means?
