Here's a question I was in the market to buy an LS1 F-body, but recently decided not to (in college, the only ones I can afford are very-high mileage ones or abused ones, and I need reliable transportation). However, I love the LS1. I was throwing some ideas around in my head, and was wondering if anyone had put an LS1 into a Porsche 944 before. I personally really like the 944's look (especially in Turbo trim) and you can find them for fairly cheap. It wouldn't matter if the drivetrain has been beaten to junk, because it'd all go, anyways. Has anyone heard of this being done before? I wonder if it can be done, too, because the 2.7L I4 takes up a lot of that engine bay... haha. Thanks for the help. Also, to clarify, this wouldn't be under way for a year or so, and would be a project car, not main transportation or anything. |
It wouldnt be cheap. It would be better to buy a high mileage LS1 and rebuild it, or put an updated powertrain into that. |
what RoCNDAV said.....if you are still into it...there is a guy here doing it to his 944. Do a search. |
I have a Ranger right now. It's going to be paid off in 2 or so years, and when it is, I'll be good to have a second "project" car. If I could find a nice LS1 F-body for cheap enough then, I might go for that. If I can't find a nice one, I might buy a small RWD car for $2000 or less, and then have fun with that. Would you say $10,000 is a good figure for doing an engine swap? That's about what it costs to throw a 5.0 into a Ranger, it seems, with fuel injection, all the extras, new rear end, etc. |
$10000 is plenty |
there is a company that makes conversion kits for 944's, 968's, and 911's. do a search on yahoo and you will be able to find it pretty easy. |
I found it. Thanks though. I didn't think it would be a common conversion, haha. It's cheaper than I thought it would be. Its a little vague on some points, but I'll look through it a little more. |
