Default Completed E36 LS1 swap total weight and corner weights

And the answer is ----> 3183 lbs with full interior, all fluids, ac and 1/4 tank of gas The car had not settled at all so the corner weights are probably not all that accurate but the total weight sure is. Too bad those BMW motors are so heavy....









Exhaust "tuner style"



It needs some minor tweaking but it is definitely a car again

might you have taken the weights before the swap? It would be nice to see how the LSX affects the weight distribution

Good idea I will take the car apart and put it back together like it was stock and then take it apart and put it back together the way it is now.

Stock M3's weigh in at right around 3200 lbs.

I bought the car without a motor or transmission so I couldn't have weighed the "before" state. Weights for stock M3's are easy to find.

Very nice, I think most of the weight is in the tranny though. I am getting ready to put the LS6 in my e30 M3 which had an S50 in it before hand and the LS6 is lighter but the T56 is heavier I believe than the ZF tranny from the M3.

pop the hood and take some pics.. what trans did you use.. is there a link to webpage you made of the build or anything? A friend of mine is gutting his E36 at the moment and im trying to convince him to do the LS1 swap.. help me out here

Your vehicle registration probably has the weight listed for plain E36 of your type; otherwise the internet shows E36 M3 at 3219lbs or 3439lbs -- yours appears to be a little lighter ..... go smoke some "stock" M3's E36 with M50 engine 3020lbs

It is hard for me to believe that any passenger car manual transmission can be much heavier than a T56. A T56 is about 120lb without a shifter, throwout bearing, or bellhousing.

Nice work Rob. Looks to be about 51% front. With you in the car it should be balanced even better.

This is probably a newb question, but where did you find a good quality E36 without motor/transmission? That's exactly what I'd be looking for, but the cheapest I usually see is around 4k for one in decent shape. Never tried auto auction/junkyard, was just wondering how you did it.
