LS1 Oil Pan on LQ9

I have an LQ9 that I am putting in my 79 TransAm.

I bought an LS1 Oil pan from someone on the sight.

I bought the LS1 pickup tube from someone else off the sight.

Pickup tube lying inside oil pan. It seems to fit the curves and contours of the pan.

Pickup tube bolted to oil pump. I know the windage tray is not in, I don't have one yet.

Pan does not fit when pickup tube is bolted to oilpump. Fits fine when I remove the pickup tube.

Why am I having this problem? Do I need to use an LS1 oil pump?

Either the tube or the pan aren't from a F-body.....Or.....The tube/mounting bracket is bent...

TransAm Mania 10-15-2007 10:23 PM

I measured the pan and the numbers seem to be right on. Its interesting that you say the tube bracket may be bent because the bracket does not fit flush with the stud it mounts to. I don't know if you can see from the side view shot of the tube bolted in or not.

Any other ideas????

its gotta be a bent mount on the pickup tube... And go to GM and buy a new o ring for your pickup tube, if you havn't already.

See I have the old O Ring from the truck pickup tube but I wasn't sure if the LS1 pickup tube uses the O ring. I guess it does. Can I just use the same O ring?

i have a double roller chain in my engine along with a melling oil pump. had a hell of a time fitting my autokraft pickup tube to the engine. i had to enlarge the hole in the tube to mount it to the main cap. then i had to hammer on the tube to get it to seal to the oil pump! all that madness because my oil pump is spaced out 1/16 of an inch!

The o-rings are all the same. Its cheap insurance to replace it.

The o-ring is different between the f-body and truck. The f-body o-ring is thicker because the pickup OD is slightly smaller.

I think the f-body PN is 12557752

Thanks guys for your help and the heads up on the O ring. Maybe I'll try bending the bracket this weekend.
