Knowlage of landcruisers:

got the turbo 400 last weekend
rebuilt, transpak shift kit and kevlar clutches. 32 sprag and other goodies.

turbo 400 needs:
deep sump trans pan. im going moroso with this one. love their products.
tranny cooler. need big one!!!
torque converter for 6.0.
i have a new 1800 (i think) stall converter for a SBC/BBC. anyone need it?

got the NP205 last weekend.
rebuilt, resealed.

NP205 needs:
pull shift rails to twinstick.
fab emergency brake to rear pinion output.

driveshafts:
later.

got the 6.0 from the junkyard today. stripped wiring harness off of it. labled everything. pulled coil packs and plug wires. junkyard broke a coil pack when they pulled the engine. pulled starter and a/c compressor off. put ECM in the closet for now. loaded in truck, and pressure washed it off.

question: a 6.0 is just like a LS1, just iron block? so when searching for stuff online, LS1 stuff applies right?

sitting in garage taking up space.

this weekend's goal:

pull the engine/trans/t-case out of landcruiser. clean and prep frame rails.

what i gotta buy/order this week:

flex plate and torque converter to get a 6.0 to a turbo 400.
remember i am teh suck at GM engines, so i need help! suggestions and comments welcome! i have thick skin :flipoff2:
im gonna start searching around for this, i live in houston. anyone have suggestions?

This should be a weekend swap! Easy!Lol...

Are you running A/C?

And you will need to hook the vacuum line for the TH400 to the brake booster line on the back of the intake.

You might want to run a VSS as well. I don;t think the stock compressor will work for OBA. I have seen aftermarket OBA for Lsx motors I'll have to look.

why would i have to run a VSS? the transmisison needs no electrical input.

wouldnt i be able to get whatever i needed tuned out w/ LS1 edit?

dont worry about the onboard air, i have done it many times.

k some research shows that i have two options for the torque converter.

buy the spacer that goes on the stock 6.0 flexplate and elongate the holes a little and it will bolt to the torque converter i already have. cost: 90 bucks

buy a conversion converter and bolt everything up. cost: 450-1200 bucks.

i think the choice is obvious

so this is a flat flex plate right? not a dished one? seems flat to me.

is this a spacer or the crank?

if its the spacer, i think i can just bolt the T400 t/c on there, right?

i found this info, copied from camaross.com

here are the facts about fitting an old style trans to the gen3 engines

1. the gm gen1,2 trans will bolt to the gen3 engines but you only use 5 bolts, the gen 3 engines do not use the middle bellhousing bolt on the pass side( no big deal)

2. you do not need a special flexplate, the curved 4.8,5.3,LS1- just need the t/c bolt holes ovaled out a bit and the 5.3 flex plates have a set of holes that match the small gm t/c bolt pattern perfect

- the 6.0 flat flex plate has the same t/c holes as the large gm pattern(th400 and most aftermarket th350 converters that have a dual t/c bolt pattern on them)

3. you need to use a crankshaft spacer when using a gen1,2 trans and converter there are 2 types:

- hughes gen3 crankshaft spacer part # hup-3795 $44 from summit/jegs, this spacer must be used with the curved 4.8,5.3,LS1 flexplates

- gm stock 6.0 crankshaft spacer 12563532 and longer bolts 12563533, this spacer can be used with either the flat or curved flexplate ( if using the curved style flexplate the flexplate goes on the crank first then the spacer goes on then the bolts, if using the flat 6.0 flexplate the spacer goes on the crankshaft first then the flexplate then the bolts)

i have used both style spacers, on several 5.3,LS1, 6.0 swaps and have not had any problems with either set up

anyone confirm this?

anywhoo im gonna go get the GM parts tomorrow.

yup you can bolt a th350 or 400 right up to that with no special converter or spacer, it already has the spacer on it

Some of the 6.0L's have the spacer on the crank. Just elongate the flexpate to torque converter holes a little then bolt up transmission.

pretty busy day.

pulled the front clip off of the cruiser, unbolted motor mounts and all related crap to pull it. ripped out the brake booster and clutch master, blower on the firewall, ebrake cable, steering box, all sheetmetal on the frame....etc.etc.

bell housing to t/c flanges are 1 inch
6.0 block flange to flexplate is 1 inch. sweet!

t/c sitting on flexplate showed in needed to hog out the holes. cut the holes w/ a 5/8 annular cutter, and used washers. bolted trans to engine, made sure t/c spun, and bolted it up w/ new torque converter bolts and nuts.

need to find some tranny bolts. i used the engine mount bolts for a temporary thing.

this thing is a bitch to move around by yourself!!! took me 20 minutes just to get the engine and hoist turned around in the fuggin garage

trans weighs like 150 lbs or more, and the tcase weighs close to 200 lbs. need to make mounts and other crap to support this thing.

need to pull the FJ's engine/trans/tcase and do something with it. it runs!
http://s222.photobucket.com/albums/d...iserls6027.flv

the cast aluminum inspection cover will fit to with a little help from the plasma cutter.
now i need to figgure out motor mounts and whatnot when i get it dropped in there. stay tuned.
