Yes in hind sight the truck accesories setup does move the alt and power steering up higher.
I have a 98 Wrangler with a 4.8 chev in it with the truck accesories it has more clearance to the left upper control at the axle.
The thermostat housing is from CSR Inc out of Florida.
I'm just finishing the engine compartment. Wirings complete. 8.8 axle goes in this week end along with the gas tank.
Have to bolt in the shifter and put the interior back together.
About two weeks to the first drive. Should be fun. May run a few legs of the Power tour with it.
Happy to answer any questions.

Which shifter did you go with? I started out with a Lokar, but the linkage interfered with the transfer case linkage. So I switched to a B&M truck shifter which is cable operated - it works, but I'm still not entirely happy with it. It has that racheting mode crap which I could do without. I think I may end up switching to the simple style B&M which is just PRND321.
I love the power of the 5.3, more than enough for me on the trails. I do need an ATLAS and a set of HP60's now. Waiting to get the vette sold and then I'll be able to finish the Jeep the way I want it.
I've actually been thinking about running the 8.8 as an alternative. The guys who run them in our club haven't had any issues so far. I've currently got a 44 in back. The stock d30 is what I'm worried about.

I've driven my 4.8 for about two years. It's truly is a great swap.
A few things on this one I've used on this swap.
Speedway block hugger headers.
Novak trans adapter.
Novak radiator
2000 Corvette fuel filter regulator
Flowmaster 2:1 merge into a 3" magna flow cat. Misc 2.5" 90 degree mandrel bends to connect the left header to the right header
Howell engine harness and computer mods
B&M Hammer shifter soon to be installed. I will let everyone know how that works. I want it to fit in the stock console
Stock gauges with Autometer tach
Drilled the head for the stock water temp gauge. Drilled the oil adapter for the stock oil pressure sender.
Spal fan with a Painless fan relay
Shortened the front drive shaft.
Made the motor mounts
By the way my 98 Wrangler with the 4.8 is for sale. Reduced to $7200.

You got my Jeep!!
JIMB,
Cool set up. I have the same jeep and am looking at a 2003 5.3 swap. How did you work your A/c and your tach? I have a S&P harness but am wondering how to get the GM A/C compressor to work with the Jeep controls.
Any Help? Keep the pics coming!

LS1 Wrangler
Just an update.
The LS1 ran great but it had a fair amount of piston slap on a cold start.
I got tired of the noise so I pulled the LS1 and swapped in a 2004 6.0 from a 3/4 ton van. It had 21,000 miles
Swapped over all accesories and intake. Used the LS1 wiring harness and computer. It runs great with about the same power as the LS1.
Now I can run on 87 octane.

I'm looking at a LS1/4L60E swap possibly next summer.. What did you do for the gauges? I am under the impression that doing this swap the stock Jeep dash cluster won't work with any of the LS1 components?

The tach won't work since they are digitally controlled gauges and driven from the Jeep's PCM (over comm bus). You can keep the Jeep's PCM in place and piggyback it with the GM PCM to control the other Jeep cluster gauges though - coolant, fuel, speedo, etc.. The tach signal generated in the PCM is derived from the CPS signal which is different from the GM CPS. Because of this, you would need to run an aftermarket tach gauge.
I scrapped all of the OEM gauges and went this route
I've heard rumor that someone got the tach to work by using a 97-99 style gauge cluster, but haven't seen anything definite on that yet..
