Question 98-02 'vert Trunk Hinge

There's a bushing in the trunk hinge that is worn out on my 2000 TA 'vert. It lets that side of the trunk shift around a bit when opening and closing. You can lift the leading edge of the trunk until the crash bolts contact the body. Does anyone know if the bushing is available and can be replaced or should I start looking at bone yards for a good used one?

I did a search but didn't find anything specific to this issue, although I did find several threads where people were putting washers on the crash bolts to shim it against the slot in the body. I'm not interested in using the crash bolts as a bushing to hold the lid tight. That masks the problem but doesn't correct it.

I really cant answer your question on the bushings but also am having an issue w the trunk hinge... my passenger side seems to stick when opening, I have to pull out on the bottom of the trunk (near the pass. tail light) to get it to open all the way. Pain in the a**.

That may be a symptom of a similar problem. With the worn hinge, it doesn't go through the normal range of motion and can bind a bit.

Glad to hear someone's on it. I might try to take mine apart if I could find a good used on in a junkyard first, but I don't want to chance ruining the hinge without a replacement.

Somebody please post a pic of the bushing being referenced. Surely it can be bought or made.

Same problem here. I only use the car for joy rides so I don't open the trunk very often, but if someone could figure out were to get the plastic bushings I would be grateful.

are you talking about how you have to lift the trunk lid carefully from the middle to open it because the right side hangs up a little?

I have no issues opening my trunk. I just happened to notice I could grab the center of the front of the deck lid and lift it a substantial amount with the lid latched.

I am perplexed about the nylon bushing(s) previously referenced. I've owned my car since it was two years old, and there never were any bushings on my deck lid hinges that I can recall. I'd still like for someone to take a pic of where the bushing goes and what exactly it looks like. I'm sure I can figure something out if I have some notion what it's all about.

Exclamation

Just went to load my trunk with stuff to meet the hot rod power tour tomorrow in gulfport and while I was in my trunk I noticed it was a lil harder than normal to open so I grabbed my WD 40 and hit these spots which I would also guess is where the bushings are located? Amazing what a lil lube will do...

That's the trouble spot. On mine there is physical play at the joint. It looks like there was a bushing that has worn out and fallen out.

Default Trunk bushing repair

I noticed that this post is old. But did anyone ever find out the fix for this. I have a 2002 SS Vert same problem.

Thanks
Mike
