Modified C6's come on in

I'm going to be taking delivery on a 07 C6 Z51, it's been worked over by ECS and dyno'ed at 730rwhp:secret2:

I was wondering who here took the modified C6 route, verses used Z06?

I had always told myself that, it'd be a Z06 or bust.

The higher price of the Z compared to this car has been the major deciding factor. It doesn't have a widebody on it, which would have been nice, but it does have the targa top, which I think I'd like better.

Anybody sorry they didn't wait and save for the Z, or love your sleeper C6?

It's just going to be a street car, take to cruise ins, and down the track once and awhile, hopefully it'll still track some attention even if it isn't a Z!

I am in the same boat as you. I made 480rwhp on HCI and now a stroker is in the works. I am nowhere near the 730rwhp, but my other turbo car does make 800rwhp. I know that even with more power that I will be making 525+rwhp with my C6, I am still going to have the Z06 bug. It's just that fact of having the Z06 that keeps getting me. Good luck on getting rid of that bug!

I guess my only way of talking myself out of the vette is that i'm going to use it as a street car, and i'm not a professional driver, so I think mine should keep me pretty happy.

Course, maybe if I whoop a Z at the track I'll feel better LOL

I have an 05 Z51, it looks stock but I'm putting dpwn 653rwhp/546rwtq and I love it, especially when a ZO6 tries messing with me:D

The only way you'll consistently whoop a Z at the track is in a straight line. If that's your gig, more power to you (figuratively and literally :thumb:). There are several modded C6s running with the Zs, but start modding a Z, and that gap widens again.

I had the Z bug bad. Really bad. I thought my '06 coupe would keep me satisfied. It didn't. I priced a supercharger, built motor, wide body conversion, driveline and suspension upgrades, wheels, tires, dry sump conversion, etc., and between parts and labor It was getting really close to $30K.

C6 is a great car, no question. The C6 Z06 is a phenomenal car. One test drive and you will lose sleep over it.

well how much can you save buying a C6 vs a Z06 and dump that saved $$ into mods.

well the C6 Z51 with 730rwhp is $37k (8500 miles on it)

All of the Z06's with low miles (which I want) are in the $53-56k range it seems, at least within 300-500 miles of me:eyes:

Ragtop 99 Mar 15, 2009 10:37 AM

Congrats on the purchase. If you want to mod it more, here's where to start given you have all that power:

1) MGW shifter if the car is still stock
2) 18" x 11" rear rims with nitto 555rII tires. You can widen a set of stockers if you want the stealth look and they do not need the wideboy kit.

Cole Train Mar 15, 2009 11:57 AM

i agree with RagTop99 that i'd get a new Gen MGW if you want to spend the $250 on it;) and have the rears widened and keep the stock wheels;)

well, plans changed because of work, so I wasn't able to complete the deal.

I guess I'm back to looking and dreaming!

A Z is a totally different driving experience. I was looking at them until I found out insurance would be just under $2K every six months. I can't justify that so I will have wait a couple years until I turn 25. At which time it will be a Z or viper. You can get clean low mile Z06's for mid to high 40's.

Ouch, the search continues

that sucks man. Keep hitting roadblocks:( You'll find what you want before ya know it

I have driven both hard, and would rather have a ZO6 becasue of hte fast and the 427 base motor. and lighter.....but you are not going to notice the difference in daily driving, or smoking the tires...you would see it at a road course, but you would also have the a GOOD drive to take the C6, or the c6 zo6 to the limits where you see the difference start to show...

MetallicaMatt Mar 16, 2009 03:45 PM

So, since this thing will never see a road course, am I better off with a Z51?

I love the looks of the Z06, amazing car, but worth the extra cash for basically just saying "I've got a Z"?

CySevans Mar 16, 2009 03:52 PM

More like "I have one of the last factory 427s GM will ever produce because of stupid government CAFE standards".

But if you don't plan to take it on a road course, I would stick to the Z51. A Z06 would be overkill. But actually so would the Z51 option. Just get a base coupe if all you plan to do is modify it for the 1/4 mile.

BADZ Mar 16, 2009 04:27 PM

Nice Z51 but the Z's are hard to beat!!!
